What client are you using?
Try mIRC, you can select servers from a dropdown on that

I don't know if chatzilla always goes with a default, and I was trying to select a different server without much luck.

Try mIRC, it'll let you use any server you want. Just select random efnet.

Jon, Kelly's leaving, if you want to set something up on another server I'll come join you. I haven't IRC'ed since 1990 so I don't really know how this all works anymore.

I'm still confused about this whole IRC thing. Is THIS IRC different from the #mefi one? My name comes up different here and I can't seem to open both at the same time (although on #mefi I could keep that one open and go to a second subgroup and toggle between the two). I'm just trying to get a grasp on what exactly is going on here. I don't even know what @ before my name means. Oh my god, am I a luddite?

@ before your name means you are an Op, therefore have The Power. Use it wisely.

The issue of not being able to open both at once depends on many things, not the least of which is what IRC client you are using.

It honors most commands, don't know if ops works or not. Anyway, you're welcome to it, I only use it once a month for a meeting.
