I can't get over how crappy a site that is, and how often I come across crappy sites. What is it with entrepreneurs -- are they so cheap they can't even pay a college student to do a halfway decent website?

They probably did pay some poor schmuck of a college student to do a halfway decent website, who promptly spent the $500 deposit on hooch and weed, then went and stripped one of those cookie-cutter e-commerce sites an hour before rollout. Or something.
