Map Hacks on Crack My new favorite headline and a fun little article to boot. Maybe we'll get our surprise MeFi pony sooner than expected.
I love that Wired is actually actively using "hack" an "hacker" in the proper positive, constructive light.
One of my ultimate wishlist geek toys would be a wireless data enabled GPS mapping tool and/or PDA.
I can't count the number of times I've been out and about and just wanted to know "Where's the nearest fscking ATM of ACME Bank" or "Where's the nearest bar?" or "Where's the nearest thrift store?" or whatever.
It'd be insanely awesome to have something like that set up with favorite and often-repeated queries set up with point-click macros or scripts, alongside things like realtime traffic and weather data. Or realtime mass-transit data.
It'd be like a tiny god in my pocket.
I could think of plenty of more powerful and interesting ubergeektoys, but this one is quite attainable, doable and actually useful in the real world.
