I have seen some ugly dogs in my time so I was feeling pretty smug and unshockable as I clicked the link but DAMN. That is one ugly dog.

It's the milky eye. It takes it from plain old elderly Chinese Crested to dead-eye zombie dog.

BAHAHAHA!

Ms. Lockheed wanted the judges to drink in Sam's finest features. The fatty lump pushing out of his chest, the line of warts marching down his snout and his knobby, drawn-out paws are best viewed up close, so, "I went over, plopped him on the judges' table and they sort of recoiled."

Having recently lost a 17-year-old cat to cancer, I was saddened to read about Sam's ailments. I'm glad he got to have a little bit of fame and hopefully some affection (alongside all that repulsion) in his life.

Sam will be appearing in all his hideous glory on Monday in Santa Barbara's Fourth of July Parade, which begins at 1 p.m. at State and Micheltorena streets and ends at Cota Street.
