Nike apologizes for Minor Threat ripoff. "To set the record straight, Nike Skateboarding's "Major Threat" Tour poster was designed, executed and promoted by skateboarders, for skateboarders. All of Nike employees responsible for the creation of the tour flyer are fans of both Minor Threat and Dischord Records and have nothing but respect for both."
Hey, thanks for following up on my post.

I wonder how much the declamations on the Web had to do with it.

Everything.

Of all the bands to pick to ripoff. Minor Threat is one of the most famously non-corporate and prinicpled bands out there. I wonder what Nike's take will be when the first few punk bands release singles, t-shirts, and/or flyers altering Nike images. Of course, punks and malcontents have been doing that already to corporate images for years and have (for the most part) been able to fly under the radar.

Smooth move on Nike's part. They actually made themselves more sympathetic to the little punk dinks by ripping it off and then apologizing with the old 'We're fans too!' line.

it's really sad that someone in the big machine was probably all happy about pushing it through and forgot they were inside "a corporate machine of evil"

i'd still much rather they let us get "sweatshop" stitched on their shoes
