One of the things I love about Metafilterchat is the knowledge base. I am hoping someone who knows about Brain Freeze will show up and explain how the whole thing works(e.g., The cold liquid causes the blood vessels in the throat to constrict signaling to the muscles around the optical nerve to tighten thus causing blah blah blah).

The best thing to do with a Coke slurpee: drink enough to free up a couple inches in the cup. Add spiced rum and enjoy. It's a great drink for a hot day.
