Oh, the horror! Oolong would be sick.
Who shoots a bunny even once?
posted by interrobang 20 June | 02:25
It was just a friendly invitation. Honest.
posted by dreamsign 20 June | 02:26
Probably, it had Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Bunnies aren’t just cute
Like everybody supposes
They’ve got them hoppy legs
And twitchy little noses
And what’s with all the carrots?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Bunnies!
Bunnies!
It must be bunnies!
…Or maybe midgets?

That was one freaky (now deleted) post. Spinning rims, anyone?

What's fun is to watch people on Metatalk strain to come up with reasons to give the poster the benefit of the doubt. It's like high school debate club.

No wonder we have the president we do.

I didn't see the post, I can only infer the contents from these comments.

I was about, um, 10 years old or so when I first (and last, actually) went out with a bunch of people shooting prairie dogs. One kid shot a rabbit, not fatally, and that was the first time I'd ever heard that horrid and completely unexpected scream that rabbits can make. Yech. I have no taste for killing anything, excepting maybe Republicans. Just kidding.

I'm a little fascinated with the Aussies' hatred of rabbits. I understand why, but I don't understand how someone can't see (what seems to me to be) the inherent cuteness of rabbits.

The text of the question is in this beautiful MeTa thread.

Pests. Rabbits and possums are evil. The cuteness only makes them doubly so.
posted by tracicle 20 June | 04:16
You can hate them as a pest but still think individually that they an be cute. I think they are nice and soft and I suppose they're ok on the cute to look at scale. But I'm ambivalent for the mostpart.
And err...tracicle says it more succinctly.
posted by peacay 20 June | 04:20
Waitup. Possums are not an introduced species. They can be a pest, but they're not Pests in the same way rabbits, foxes, canetoads are.

Should that have gone in the favourite quotes page. Dunno.
Note that the thing merges better into the metachat page if you set the colours to 243,243,244

Possums are an introduced species here in NZ, as are bunnies and pretty much anything mammalian. They are native to Australia, though, and I don't know if they're considered a pest in the same way.

But we're talking about fluffy bunnies, anyways. I just had possums on the brain at the time because they're the only thing I've ever witnessed the killing of.

So who posted the AskMe question originally? Was it krrrlson?
posted by iconomy 20 June | 08:45
It was someone named AMWKE, who, from reading the comments in the MetaTalk thread, is some sort of upper midwestern neanderthal who likes spinning rims.

Does the MeCha bunny have a name?

We had a wild bunny visit this morning. It was driving the cats nuts, they kept running from window to window. I guess they hadn't seen one before. For whatever reason it was eating the cast-off sunflower seed shells just below our squirrel bird feeders.
posted by deborah 20 June | 13:47
Should have let the cats out, it would give them a good exersize.
Once I saw a friends innocent looking teeny furball run down and catch a rabbit twice her size. Color me impressed with that little ladies hunting instinct, and speed. Wow. Kinda creeped me out when she wanted to purr in my lap later. go away rabbit-killer!

When you have to build a fence across an entire country (slight exaggeration) to stop them from decimating your farmland (no exaggeration), they take on a whole different appearance. One bunny may be cute, one million bunnies in one place is the stuff of horror movies.

Having now read the MeTa thread - First spinning rims, now this? At least this person is staying true to type.

The world gets stupider and stupider every day.

yes, I know stupider is not a real world
posted by dg 20 June | 18:29
maybe in 2 or 3 days time, stupider will be the real world.

Goodness! Kudos to all of you bright enough to keep the bunny talk to the bunny page. Posting to a rancorous MeTa thread is like getting assigned to Team Crazy when you didn't even know you were eligible for the draft.

Am I the only one who read seanyboy's lobster link and became completely depressed? I keep picturing those big claws trying desperately to hold on to the edge of the pot. *sniff*
