It's a revolving door.

A partial list of people who have played bass for them: Matt Lukin (went on to mudhoney), Lori Black/Lorax, Joe Preston (the whip, the thrones, high on fire), Mark Deutrom, and poor ol' Kevin Rutmanis.

The Melvins are all about Buzz Osoborne and Dale Crover.

although a revolving door, Kevin was considered a better choice for an integral part because of, well, him being around since 98 (that's seven years!)

there's talk about David Scott Stone putting on the old four string.
