20 June 2005

Have you made the news lately? Just wondering, because this morning I had my yogurt while reading an article about dabitch. :)
Please ignore that typo.

what'd it say?
posted by amberglow 20 June | 07:40
Hm..yes...this is a tease! Well?
(and is MeFi down or it just me?)
posted by peacay 20 June | 07:48
Holy crap. I didn't know you read sydsvenskan soundsofsuburbia. :)

I also didn't know it would be in there today, been getting funny calls all morning. ;)

what'd it say?

Blablablah, AdLand, blahblablah lots of vistors, blablablah lots of commercials and then there's a picture of my pregnant belly! :D
posted by dabitch 20 June | 07:58
It's quite the write-up!

– Sajten handlar om roliga saker och jag skriver på engelska. Det är två bra sätt att få besökare, menar Åsk Wäppling.

really? ahhh! ; >

It means "Satan handles rolling soccer balls with the cute guy from JAG, who writes English like my father. There is a bra on my tv that seems fab, but I'd better ask Judge Wapner."

Duh.

correct.

Not recently, but aha. She didn't quite get my anger though.
posted by seanyboy 20 June | 09:45
oooh, seanyboy I'm on your side, the whole jaguar -> panther and then panther -> tiger no-go for some mac-buyers really ticks me off.

That quote is so inane. "the site is about fun stuff and I write in English. That's two good ways of getting visitors", reckons Åsk. No really? Yup, really. hehe.

Nice gams!
posted by iconomy 20 June | 10:07
I was thinking "Satan handles roller skating in English. He wears a tv bra and sits and kisses"

posted by amberglow 20 June | 11:09
Satan. What a scamp!
posted by hojoki 20 June | 11:23

*puts on Frank Sinatra singing 'That's Why The Satan is a Scamp', as quonsar pirouettes around my living room*
posted by iconomy 20 June | 11:59
meanwhile, dabitch has been pregnant for like 3 years, no? what's up with that? ; >
posted by amberglow 20 June | 12:07
I'm an elephant.
posted by dabitch 20 June | 13:49
It's been about 2 months for me. I'm having withdrawals. :(
posted by mudpuppie 20 June | 14:01
I'm a member of the Dahoo Chorus and this was in last week's issue of the Mercury...

mudpuppie, withdrawals from... what?
posted by Specklet 20 June | 14:15
...yeah, withdrawels from being pregnant?
posted by dabitch 20 June | 15:00
wow, I'd love to come and see that Specklet!
posted by dabitch 20 June | 15:02
That show already happened, but we've got another one this Saturday, and it's going to AWESOME! Heh, think you can get to Portland before then?
posted by Specklet 20 June | 15:16
i'd sköter that största for way less than reklam, no blivit about it.
posted by quonsar 20 June | 15:48
Hey, who you callin' största?!
posted by Specklet 20 June | 16:28
I'd love to see that, Speck--do you ever play NYC?
posted by amberglow 20 June | 16:33
when are you due, dabitch? and boy or girl? : >

(and did they pay you? I heard Holland and some other countries are now paying or something, due to the low birthrates.)
posted by amberglow 20 June | 16:40
quonsar: Blort with an ö is the way to go. Blört. It got a certain "omph" that you can't achieve using the american language. :)
posted by soundofsuburbia 20 June | 16:44
Nope, sorry amberglow, so far we've only played in the NW. But we are gaining in popularity...

I think Blört may be my new favorite word.
posted by Specklet 20 June | 17:07
qüØnsår's Blört : >
posted by amberglow 20 June | 20:34
Well, it's not the news, but it's pretty popular UK mp3 blog, and one of the nicest write-ups we've ever gotten -- it's had me happy for days.

dabitch, that's one cute belly!
posted by melissa may 20 June | 21:14
melissa, excellent! (listening to "bubblegum" now--good morning!)

: >
posted by amberglow 20 June | 21:27
Good morning! Thanks, sweetheart.

(Also, Specklet, count me as another who'd love to see you get your Queen on too.)
posted by melissa may 20 June | 21:59
Blort with an ö is the way to go.
done.
posted by quonsar 21 June | 01:25
Magnificent!
posted by soundofsuburbia 21 June | 05:27
grövy quonsar! :P

(don't do quonsår... Sår means "wound". Unless you wanna be the quon-wound.)
posted by dabitch 21 June | 07:35
do you guys use regular vowels and also those too?

/ignorant question
posted by amberglow 21 June | 09:24
amberglow: Yeah, both.
posted by soundofsuburbia 21 June | 10:16
a and å are on the opposite sides of the alphabet. We have 29 letters and 9 written vowels, but there's about twice as many vowel sounds if you figure dialects into the equation.
swedish vowels (fun drawing)

My biggest pet peeve is when the likes of the New York Times manages to spell "Chancellor Schröder" correctly but skips bothering with them dorky little dots when they write "Goran Persson". Not to mention when they keep extreme track of diacritic marks in some names and words, while substituting an entire letter for another when it comes to those strange little ÅÄÖ, or ÆØ. That's just effed up.

But it could be worse. It could be a silly heavy metal band trying to look cool adding dots to their o's and accidently spelling out a totally un-hardcore word like: "the sweater". Dorks.
posted by dabitch 21 June | 10:53
I have actually email-interviewed dabitch once, when Adland was "Site of the month" in the magazine I used to work at. Of course, this was years ago, since I'm obviously far ahead of the curve when it comes to cool stuff. Eh.
(The retards who edited the article made dabitch a "he", though. That pissed me off very much. Sorry, dabitch.)

I have also contributed to the "Heavy Metal Umlaut" Wikipedia entry. I'm mighty proud.

But what I really wanted to say was that "Everlasting Blört" made this thread the best on MeCha ever.
posted by mr.marx 21 June | 11:10
mr.marx, I didn't mind, since my name was spelled right. Call me he, she or a hippo just don't call me "Ask". ;P hehehe!
posted by dabitch 21 June | 11:27
Also listening to "Good Morning", melissa may - well done!

q, you're awesome. Don't let that go to your head.

Åsk the Hippo

I see a childrens tv show here.
posted by mr.marx 21 June | 12:32
Nobody's addressed what really disturbed me about the article: YOU SPELL BLOG WITH TWO "G"S?!?!?
posted by wendell 21 June | 14:39
ahhh. thanks. (yøu alphåbétîcal freäks)

posted by amberglow 21 June | 14:50
Yeah wendell, amberglow is right, we're freaks. We also spell "web" webb. Seriously.
posted by dabitch 21 June | 17:52
why does img src not work for me? I had that all set up with a darn cute hippo too. What's the trick people? There's more to it than .com/foo.jpg" /> at least when I try.
posted by dabitch 21 June | 17:54
make sure it doesn't have an "alt" description...
