Imagine if the biggest rock band in the United States was fronted by someone who looked and sounded just like George W. Bush. note: salon link, requires viewing ad. but you knew that.

Coldplay are tedious and unimaginative. They don't play music, they administrate it. But you knew that.

Here in the states they have a reputation of making 'music to make love by'. Need some music to set the mood? Get out the Coldplay CD.

I do think they're in the process of being usurped by Maroon 5, tho...

Here in Britain we call it contraception

I thought Coldplay was Foreplay that didn't lead to anything...

Really? I always thought they were 'music to irritate and annoy by.' The new single was on KROC the other day, and it frankly sucked. A lot. I mean, did anyone need media confirmation that Mr. Martin is a wanker? no.

Can someone please let me know what this band sounds like? I don't ever listen to the radio.

Well, there are plenty of country music bands who love bush. look at Toby Keith, or whatever.

i downloaded a torrent of X & Y, the newest coldplay. seemed i was hearing about them everywhere, decided to give it a listen. partway through the third track i pitched the entire thing in the recycle bin. it was sort of like Yes and sort of like Porcupine Tree, but without any passion or chops or imagination. rather like a lump of damp day-old cabbage drying slowly in the sun. i cannot beleive this is britains biggest band. there is hope though, as i understand crazy frog outsells them.

Well, with their most recent release, they sound like a crappy version of U2. What you have there, then, is something like crap to the second power. Now, imagine if you took the square root of that crap - you would end up with a positive and a negative root. Assuming that U2 is the positive root, previous Coldplay endeavors would be the other.

Usually they're considered crappy, watered-down Radiohead.

I actually didn't mind either "Clocks" or "The Scientist" but I really felt insulted by the new single's similarity to, well, both of those.

And Toby Keith is a registered Democrat, although he "supports the troops" and had no real truck with John Kerry.

I liked "Clocks." Or rather, I didn't mind hearing it quietly, as I fell asleep, on MTV in the background. Beyond that I haven't bothered to investigate (and with all the music out there, I see no reason to start). From here, Coldplay looks like this decade's Enya, but not nearly as pretty.

Many of Toby Keith's sentiments are asinine, but at least he's willing to fake a little more enthusiasm for he's doing.
