What's on your desktop? I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
How did you do that? I think I would have to take a picture & upload it to flickr, but I know that this is not the geek way. Besides, does anyone want to see a picture of my son flanked by a bunch of downloaded fonts & pdfs I haven't got around to dumping yet?
These are freaking awesome. And I never knew about ALT/print scrn either! I've been doing screen captures with my graphics program, but ALT/print scrn is so much easier...geez.
Carter - not me. I can't stand a busy desktop, even though I used to make icons and had an icon site. I keep it as uncluttered as possible, which is why I'm so fascinated by seanyboy's desktop right now! Also, andrewcooke, I really like your icons. I think I might have to make some more...getting inspired here. These are all great, especially the ones with personal photographs on them. Bee-oo-tee-ful...
I cleaned up and arranged my link icons, because it was messy and you couldn't see the pretty picture, but I had been meaning to sort them for a while anyway.
For anyone running XP that wants to get rid of those little diagonal "short cut" arrows on their icons, download Tweak UI from the Power Toys collection. You can get rid of the arrows and do all kinds of fun little things with it, in an easy to use interface. I know...most people could care less about the arrows, but I like to see the whole icon, if I have to look at it.
Yeah, I consolidated some files and folders into "stuff". I don't like a cluttered desktop, but I do tend to accumulate, say, seven or eight things before I clear them out. I have a seperate partition that I use for data and whatnot. I always reassign the "My Documents" folder to one over there, and that's where stuff gets first-pass organized. Maybe. That tree normally just grows beyond all reason.
Yes, I left that folder out because I knew if anyone recognized it they would get a kick out of it. I have yet to find a lukewarm fan.
(What do you think of the newest? I've only listened a couple of times, but given the more (truly) autobiographical nature of the material, I find it strangely unaffecting. The earlier fictions are somehow more emotionally honest to me. (And this isn't just a function of production values. I love Talahassee and We Shall All Be Healed.)
Cat's out of the bag with that neologism I guess. Not intended to bring on the hate, though. Why do we kid? because we love. of course.
omiewise, earlier kenko and another someone had a bit to offer somewhere else on metachat about the new stuff since I haven't heard it on album yet. (can you believe!?!) but I'm listening to The Coroner's Gambit right now since seeing your folder. Saw them a couple of weeks ago and it was fabulous.
Here's my home desktop, much messier...I was sifting through some mp3s for the mix swap and I piled them all on top of each other to muddy up the names a bit. Just in case anyone wants to be surprised. I can't remember where I found the photograph, but the cat ears made me laugh.
Can't claim credit - it was stolen from the talented PointlessWasteOfTime folks. There's a couple of other goodones on there. I too am perplexed by "Disappearing Toaster".
There's some great potential band names on there, though. Someone remember "Brown-eyed Earl" and "Fuck Knuckles" for the next AskMe name-my-band thread.
Come to think of it, I think jonmc was telling us earlier that he's got the Rump Humpers' original album. In mono.
This is mine, without any tidying. My dock is rather sparse right now because this is a new computer. The background is a scan (obtained from elsewhere) of artwork in the booklet accompanying Radiohead's Kid A. I have no real idea why photoshop is highlighted.
I am so ashamed. It's not ususally like this except I've been working two jobs and just dumping stuff... stole the image from here and worked it into a desktop.
I cleaned up my desktop a little... but I was planning on doing that anyway... Image is from the official Legend of Zelda website. Geez, I'm such a nerd.
I love this! There's something very cool and interesting about what people choose to have around in their immediate vicinity in terms of form and function that simply fascinates me. Even the black/blank/solid screen.
I think I could stare at papercake's and loquacious' for hours on end.
