Update on emcee #1 collaboration. So, here's where we stand at the moment (original post here). I am expecting one more, for sure, from amberglow, and would be happy to receive any more submissions.[More:]

I've put title tags on the images, so you can mouse-over to see who did what. Since we got quite a few, I'm thinking that instead of making this "May-June", we make it just "May" and then start a new one for June, which would make the cut-off date for this one Tuesday, the 31st. Also, even if you've already submitted something for this one, if you feel like it, you can contribute more.

Finally, I'd like to make iconomy's clickable in the final version, so that you can see larger images for more detail. If anyone else wants this option for their image, please send me a larger version as well.

PS to ethylene: I understood from your last post on this that it was up to me to include yours or not, so I did. Let me know if I was wrong!
The only requirements are size, not knife-butt, and somehow related to the prior piece? Will definitely give it a shot if I get some free time.
No, it doesn't have to relate to the prior piece; I'm shifting them around for color and light/dark contrast. It can, however, relate to the theme ("gilded age") directly, or not, as you choose.

Sounds like an artpack release thingy, like many on the now defunct Pixelcore ring. Maybe, from #3 onwards.

The temptation to use MSPaint (following the Paint artwork posted a couple days ago) is almost overwhelming. I'll try to restrain myself.
Why? I said in the earlier thread that different styles/mediums would make it extracool.

Iconomy offered a scan of a real-life book art page that she has done, and I think stuff like photo/fabric/pencil-ink-paint-pastels-etc. stuff, as well as anything cool done on MSPaint or the like would be great. I did lots of stuff with MSPaint back in the day, and much of it has a purity and charm that I would never be able to reproduce today.

ach. How many times can I say "stuff" in the same paragraph? /blushing

I'm not artistic at all in the hand/eye let's draw a picture - coordination sense. But I'd love to push a couple of old pictures through some filters and slap some text on them.

Well, I was hoping for at least one photo-based contribution. I'm not encouraging anyone to do something slap-dash, but I think it's something we're missing right now. :)

oohh, i might have a picture that came out all weird that would do the job. i'll have a look when i get home.

excellent! (I was wondering where you were, my darling). Also, so that nobody gets confused by my earlier statement, we do now have a very cool one from dhruva.

I've also now added minimal titles-of-works in the title tags; if you don't like what I've put for yours, please send me your preference, and for a couple, I didn't put anything because there wasn't an associated reference in the file names for the images you sent me.

Just remember that it has to be minimal because these are just title tags. The 3rd is really called "blame it on the moon", but I just put "blame", and that actually works out to be pretty pertinent!

gorgeous, dahling, and everyone's stuff looks fabulous (pointed props to iconomy, hope the mail art thing gets rolling even more now)

guess i better get to work on shrouding my shame and sending you off a better selection to choose from.

Those are wonderful, folks. I'm jealous of the talent.

Can this kind of stuff (heh) be done in PSP7? I have it and know just enough to be dangerous. Any pointers?
posted by deborah 27 May | 16:28
I know nothing about PSP, deborah, but I've pretty much found that if there's any tool available, down to fingers/sand, anyone who wants to, and feels somehow driven, can do wonderful things.

Don't let talk about Photoshop or any other program make you feel like you can't participate; it's just like anything else in life - some people with toys make you think you can't play unless you have the right stuff.

I've seen some of the most jejune, horribly boring stuff come from people with nothing but a Powerbook, PS CS2, and a totally bewildering sense of self confidence. Trust me. The tool is just a tool; it's the user that matters.

By the way, relating to the last comment:

Can anyone recommend a good online or book resource for learning basic PSP stuff? I just got a copy too and I'm clueless.

Thanks,

(Oops, by PSP I meant PaintShopPro, not PhotoShop...)

look and see if Peachpit Press has a PSP book--they may, and all of their books are good. It's not a contest--just make something you like : >

I'm working on mine today, inbetween doing laundry.

Thanks, amberglow.

Might I suggest the occasional collaboration with Metaiku? (Just goofing around.)

(Thanks to taz too for adding just a hint of mist-coloring to my emcee submission.)

That/those is/are excellent. Where do you all find the time? Or is my initial guess right that none of you have children?
posted by dg 29 May | 18:08
(mine's a remake of a big mixed-media piece i made ten years ago, dg--20 minutes tops)
posted by amberglow 29 May | 18:52
likewise, i sent mine with the heading "here's 15 minutes of my life"
and it shows
