Security/Privacy Gap I'm getting automated e-mails whenever someone posts a comment to my previous thread--which is nice--but the mail messages are coming in "From" their individual addresses.
It's not a huge deal, but at the very least, people should be made aware when they register that their e-mail addresses are going to get distributed that way.

Aha! Question for dodgy (who is peacefully sleeping the sleep of the innocent at the moment, I assume - poor unsuspecting geezer!).

(And personally, it'd actually be a little better if the e-mails came "From" a standard MetaChat address--I'm not very likely to need to respond directly to anyone, and it'd keep things a little more consistent in my inbox.)

When I first saw the emailed comment notifications, I was suprised, then I saw the semi-spoofed "from" data and was even more suprised. I just turned it off in the profile settings, no biggy.

semi-spoofed "from" data? One can spoof it?

I'll look into this over the weekend.

And loquacious, I think we're talking about two slightly different things--you're saying that you can use the profile setting to stop getting the e-mails, which is fine. I'm just saying that even if you turned that off in your profile, that _I'm_ still getting the e-mail updates in my inbox, and your comments are "From" the e-mail address that you supplied for yourself. (For example, yours came through as from your gmail account.)

Again, not a huge deal, but for as long as e-mail addresses are going out without our ability to know or control that fact, it'd be good to at least give a warning up front.
