Feature Request: MeFi Status Indicator As long as this is meant to be kind of a side space for folks when MeFi is down, how about some kind of graphical icon on the main page that represents the current status?

It could either pick up the current status from the wiki page (as reliable as that is), or just be something that folks could flip manually. (Kind of like those "Clean/Dirty" magnets for the dishwasher.)

Eff manual flipping. Write a script that tries to load MeFi once a minute, and on an anomolous response update the Status Symbol to indicate as much. Ranging from Okie-dory to Hella Lagged all the way to Connection Refused, Buddy.

I was thinking something like that--just not sure what's realistic to expect, feature-wise, in this space. Didn't want to put something on the table that was immediately out of the realm of practical reality.

gaydolfshitler's idea sounds great if it is doable - then it could be graphed to provide statistics for when things go awry and, maybe, confirm my suspicion that there is a plot afoot to keep southern hemispherians out of MeFi.
