The keys to deep frying a Twinkie are, of course, proper batter and hot oil. The batter should be a tempura sort with no extra flavor added since this would mask the swellfulness of the Twinkie. The oil must be hotter than you can make it be.
Really, when all is said and done, the best way to eat a deeply fried Twinkie is to go to the fair, find the carney with the largest cholesterol/gingivitis gross means aggregate, and buy one from him. Powdered sugar is popular in many of the midwestern states as a garnish. Cilantro is the preferred garnish of choice in Arizona and Minnesota.
For those who seek the truly exquisite in fair cuisine, might we suggest fried cheese on a stick as an opening taste salvo?
