‪Everything I know about ‘Brooklyn’ is based on cultural artifacts... [More:]

It is apparently a strange mix of Twee Hipsters and Hasidic Jews (based on the NYTimes), gritty crack dealers (based on 90s rap), Italian mobsters (based on Hollywood movies), and very mean writers (based on Twitter). What a place!
Brooklyn is a conglomeration of many communities... like The San Fernando Valley where I grew up - Burbank is not like Van Nuys is not like Canoga Park is not like North Hollywood (which is REALLY not like Hollywood) is not like Encino North of Ventura Blvd. (where I grew up) is not like Encino South of Ventura Blvd.(where Michael Jackson grew up). In a metro area as big as NYC or LA, the subdivisions need subdivisions of subdivisions.

Yeah... while I'm sympathetic to people in the US who say that too much representation in media, politics, culture involves the coasts, it's relevant to note just how many people live in the tri-state area.

According to TV and movies NYC is also the most likely to be hit by catastrophe place on earth.

That's only because of its surplus of photogenic potential-victim locations within a relatively close distance, especially compared to L.A.
