Any place you know of to read about books? I really enjoyed Bookslut. Even when it was about things I'm not really interested in or when I disagreed with what I was reading it could introduce me to things I would not have seen. [More:] Bookslut has been dead for a year and I'd like to know if you have any places you like to go to and read about books.

I know I read the Millions many years ago but I forgot about it. Maybe I didn't like it? I'll have to check it out.

How about WTF2Read? It gives you the opening pages of a book without revealing the title. You can then choose to find out what it is (if you don't already know) and where to find it.

That's different. I'll definitely try it out.

Bookslut died? sad. You know Goodreads, right? Now owned by Amazon, which gives it an off smell. I googled sites like Goodreads and got a ton of listicles. I like Buzzfeed books. Somebody new has revived bookfilter, and it might be possible to help make it a good place. The book recommendation pages on can also be quite good. And there are occasional book threads on fanfare.mefi, but fanfare isn't really doing books well.

What do you like? If I have a book I think you'd like, I'll send it to you. I am not prompt, but really, it will happen.

I live on Goodreads, and Amazon. I look at other places for books, but those three are most influential for me. I am constantly reading in hard form and listening to audio books. I get my audio books from, usually buy ebooks and paperback books from Amazon, as well as borrowing from the library, and track everything on Goodreads.

Oh, and I have friended most everyone in the MetaFilter group on Goodreads that Obscure Reference linked to That feed of what they are all reading (and what they think of their books) has informed a lot of my reading.

I will check out Bookfilter and a first look at Buzzfeed books looks good. Thanks theora55.

I am on goodreads but not Metafilter. If you want to find me it's listed in my Mecha profile.

bearwife, I do find the Goodreads list of my friends useful and a source of new things but it doesn't scratch the itch for writing about books and the ideas they contain. I don't listen to audio books so Audible is really not for me.

I should also mention the Christian Science Monitor's book section. The review section goes back for years and while the quality varies I have found some good stuff there.
