Since I'm lazy I'm going to just copy/paste my FB statuses, haha. I've been talking about movies lately
1. ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ director Jonathan Demme has died. I didn’t fully appreciate the movie when I first saw it, but a recent viewing drove home the creepiness factor for me. The disturbing thing (among many) about Hannibal Lecter is that you can't lie to him: he's psychologically piercing.
I found this a memorable exchange: Lecter: “What does he do, this man you seek?” / Clarice: “He kills women.” / Lecter: “No, that is incidental... he covets.”
Funny anecdote from Roger Ebert: “I remember sitting in a restaurant with Anthony Hopkins as a waitress said, ‘You’re Hannibal Lecter, aren’t you? I wish my husband was more like you.’”
2. While I plan to watch Alien: Covenant, the Prometheus trailers back in the day got my attention in a way this sequel’s trailers don’t. I thought Prometheus was enjoyable despite the scorn from online reviewers nitpicking things like “but why did they take off their helmets”. The concepts and some characters were intriguing. And Noomi Rapace giving herself a C-section without painkillers to extract an alien is one of the most intense things I’ve seen in any movie
3. I don’t care if it marks me as unsophisticated, one of the most memorable moments for me in cinematic history was when Batman weakened Superman by spraying him with Kryptonite mist, then intoned: “Breathe it in. That’s fear. You’re not brave. Men are brave.”
