28 December 2015

A year end list. Things I found out still exist in 2015!
[More:]
Groupon: Apparently this zombie still stumbles along.

Dicker and Dicker of Beverly Hills: Hollywood Squares' Secret Square prize package often had Dicker and Dicker of Beverly Hills (so many jokes! So little time!) fur coat gift certificates.

The Spiegel catalog: Game shows back in the day often gave gift certificates from The Spiegel catalog! Chicago, 60609! This goes on but is now in NYC.

Betamax: Yes Sony still makes this. It comes to a halt in March 2016.
Have you found out something you thought was history still exists?

I have run across a lot of people who are astonished that typewriter ribbons are still made.

This Fisher-Price record player. It says it's a "reproduction," but I'm not sure what that means, as it's still the same thing and it's still being made.

I still marvel that Sears is here. It is time travel for me to go into our local one.

I'm glad Sears still exists, myself. They could probably eliminate the clothing side of things and stick with tools and hard-goods and do relatively well.

In countries like DE, the NL, SE Teletext is still available.
It's obviously outdated in the age of the internet.
So now in the NL f.i. it's available on the internet and even as an app.

In the UK people are more sensible and they have turned off Ceefax years ago.

Along those same lines, literally, long-distance phone services (U.S.) such as 10-10-321 still exist.

Fax machines. I have a fax number on my business card but, in the 3.5 years I've been working for my current employer I' haven't sent or received a single fax. Apparently, though, some people still use them regularly. No, I don't know why.

Medical offices still rely on faxes for some type of hippa regs in US...

Things that still exist, surprisingly: love and understanding.

Things that I wish existed: peace

I had to fax something about a year ago. Something to do with signatures. A fax of a signed document is a legal signature while a scan of a signed document is not.
