GYOFBFW update. So things seem quite a bit better (said with fingers crossed). New update.[More:]Rosemary has been seen by 2 doctors in ER and 2 acute care specialists along with a host of others including Infectious Disease, Renal, Endocrinology, Hematology, Cardiology, Oncology, and maybe some I am forgetting.

Until all the cultures set can mature toward the end of the week and absent any other information the Endocrinologist's argument now seems to be in the lead. She is sure that this was a severe drug response. Rosemary's Metformin was, 3 weeks ago, changed to Janumet (Metformin with Sitagliptin).

This was even worse than I thought it was when I took her in. Everyone looking at her file has repeated the same; "people with numbers like this just don't live through it. This is truly amazing." At 7 PM Rosemary was moved out of the acute care unit.

It's not a sure thing but it looks like she will recover fully and do so with little or no deficits. I am grateful to the staff who cared for her and this is one of those times I am SO happy to live in a place with single payer public health care. And thank you all again. Your support means more than I can relate to you.
Oh, that's wonderful news!

Sheesh, my first thought reading any of this was thank god they're in Canada. Also, perhaps strangely, I was oddly sure it'd be okay. I've things to say but not here.

UPDATE. We still have not ruled some things out as the cultures just take the time they take and the drug reaction is still in the lead as cause. Rosemary seems to be progressing very well. She is showing some cognitive deficits mostly in short term memory. That is distressing but I am hopeful it's just linked to the stress her body has been through and things will get back to normal when her body chem gets back to normal. No idea yet on when she will be out of hospital.

Our cat, Whitey Ford, is quite lost. "you're my only friend left." His best buddy Kitty died of cancer a few months back and now mommy is gone and I am gone a lot too.

arsch_hut I hope your wifes cognitive deficits clear up quickly!

So tonight she seems much better at putting thoughts together and she is now pointing out renal diet deficiencies and dinner trays that need to be pulled out of service due to surface integrity breakdown and noticing poor floor cleaning procedures. Not her hospital and she is a patient but she is supervising anyway. Seems a good sign. It looks like she should be released about mid next week.

I'm so happy to hear that recovery is going well, pal. Such a relief! Hopefully Whitey Ford has his people together at home soon, too!
