The Default Parent Venting Post. [More:] I am feeling this article so much lately, except the parts about the other parent being the default earner and appreciating me as the default parent. Those don't apply.

Feeling particularly resentful this week as I handled every facet of my son's birthday party yesterday and when afterwards I said, "That went well," he said, "It was okay." Not "thank you," not "that was great."
I've taken exactly five showers in my house without being bothered by a child and his or her immediate need. I've blown up balloons in the shower, unknotted shoes, put on band-aids, signed report cards, and braided hair.

This made me laugh, because my mother (absolutely the default parent) would never in a million years have allowed anyone to walk in on her in the shower. I mean, pain of death. You just didn't do it.

Who wasn't grateful for the party planning? Spouse or son?

Husband! Sorry, that wasn't clear. I don't expect gratitude from the toddler.

That's when I would say WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, WHY ARE YOU SUCH A JERK, I DID EVERYTHING AND YOU DID NOTHING GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH YOU ARE THE WORST. Surely not the best way to handle it but at least I would feel like my point of view had been expressed.

I talked to him about it today and he felt bad. After over three years of marriage, we are most definitely still learning how to communicate.

Well, that sucks. I'm glad you had a chance to communicate about it.
