Gay waitress "stiffed" on tip turns out to be a hoaxster. →[More:]Funny how these "I got stiffed and left a nasty note by a bigot" stories are turning out to be hoaxes. My sister (who spent years as a server) said, when this gay waitress story came out, that she had a strong suspicion this was bullshit.

My sister has looked skeptically on these stories because she said, in almost ten years waiting tables, not a single customer left a nasty note ...

There was also a story about a black server who had the same kind of tale and the customer hired a handwriting expert who seems to have debunked the claim.

The restaurant reportedly could not produce the original receipt nor explain why the family was charged for the tip amount for the meal last Wednesday.

That surprises me. I've definitely seen customers write positive notes. Or creepy come ons and phone numbers. I haven't someone write a negative note but I assumed it wasn't uncommon.

I hsd a similar spidey sense but was happy to give the benefit of the doubt. I was a server for 12 years combined and though I had some unpleasant experiences, I certainly never got a note like this. Notes of any kind were, in fact, exceedingly rare. I think most people are aware that their names and other identifying information are associated with their credit card records and don't fuck around with them much.

Yeah, saw on the news she had been dishonorably discharged from the Marines. Asked my Dad (retired Marine), I guess you're not "once a Marine, always a Marine" once that happens, eh? Nope, definitely not.
