If you have the Sundance Channel you really should check out this series which starts tomorrow and runs for eight weeks.[More:]

In the US it's called "The Returned," and it's set in a small town in the French Alps where suddenly random people who have died in the last 4 to 35 years wander home and don't know they're dead. Or were dead, since they're very much alive now. Not all of them were nice people, it turns out, and there's another mystery involving why the lake is draining and nobody can find the leak.

I've seen this series on DVD and it's absolutely brilliant, one of the best things I've seen on TV is years. So strange, so unlike anything else- it's seriously well done, and the fact that one of my favorite bands (Mogwai) do the music for the show is almost incidental, if it weren't for the fact that's how I heard of this show in the first place. And why I got it on DVD some time ago.

It is beautiful, haunting, sad, violent (some gory shit, but it's quick) and in the end, philosophical. How WOULD we act if our lost loved ones started showing up again? In ways that are very, very complicated. To say the least.
It was recently shown in the UK but I didn't see it - I think it clashed with something I was watching as well as something I was recording. I'll have to try to find it online.
