Just got buzzed by a B-25! [More:]Since I live near the local airport, hearing planes overhead is not unusual. But, the noise kept getting louder and louder and it suddenly dawned on me that that was the unmistakable sound of a set of big radial engines. And that could only mean one thing...Warbird!

I ran out the house just in time to see it banking overhead. Very pretty. Bare skin with the WWII-era blue-and-white star-and-bars marking, similar to this one.

It flew off in the direction of the airport, then came back around for another pass. This time, it had the gear down for landing.

I'm gonna be running outside the rest of the afternoon, every time I hear a plane, just in case they are flying other warbirds over there.
My father was 15 in 1944. So he saw british and US planes drone over to bomb germany. So recognising plane silhouhettes was very important to him.
I love sending him online pictures and movies of Lancasters and B-17s and such.

Recently we were talking about aluminium. He said off handedly "it has a really low melting point. I remember viewing the molten aluminium dripping of the burning wreck of a P-38 Lightning. That was after several P-38s circled to shoot the downed plane into flames to prevent it falling into german hands."
It was rather impressed I must say.

I love my old dad.
