AskMecha Fashion Challenge Edition: is anyone on here a really good online shopper? I need some help, pretty please. I want, nay need, these shoes.[More:]

I wear an 8.5 US women's, that's 6.5 Converse size. Converse fit me to size. The issue with these ones is that I have some kind of huge hulking calves. At the biggest, they are about 15". To get to 14.5" calf circumference in these shoes, I'd have to go up to US women's size 12. It's mostly muscle, so it doesn't squish well, a 14.5 probably wouldn't even zip.

Pretend for a minute money is no object. They have the be Converse, although some kind of bespoke Converse Frankenstein might be acceptable.

Any ideas?
Also, the Converse site says they will make them custom for you, but they just mean detailing, not sizing issues.

I love online shopping and usually can find what I want. But, Twiggy, if I were you I'd post this in AskMeFi. There is no individual shopper who can match the Hive Mind.

That's a good idea, bearwife. I'll link it here when I do.

Fashion a wedge-shaped strip of canvas matching the canvas of the shoes. Find a length of zipper tape with teeth and pull tab exactly matching the size and material of the zipper in the shoes. Sew the new zipper to the edges of the canvas wedge such that the teeth line up with those of the zipper already in the shoes. The size of the wedge and the placement of the zipper stops will depend on your calves.

Also, this might not work, since at the bottom tip of the wedge the two zippers would need to smoothly become one. Perhaps someone more skilled in zipper logistics could talk you through such a complicated deployment.

You could also just unstitch one side of the zipper and sew some extra canvas in to make more room, then sew the zipper back in place, but then it wouldn't be symmetrical, and asymmetrical lateral stress is bad for zippers.

Or you could just get low-top Chucky T's and wear puttees to match. They wouldn't look at all the same so that's a bad idea.
