Jukebox Time Machine! Nicked this from a nostalgia thread on MeFi. Grooving out nostalgically to the late 70s. [More:]The late 70s are when I was a kid, 9,10,11 - old enough to start cottoning onto the coolness of the big kids, but still a little kid oblivious to what most of that meant. I wonder, does everyone feel a hazy warmth for the music of their just-preteen years, or was it just something about the late 70s?
Such songs for me would be "Sugar Sugar" and Melanie's "Brand New Key".

The latter once prompted my mother to comment, "That song doesn't mean what you think." To which I thought to myself and wisely bit back, 'You mean it's *not* about sex?!'

I am often brought up short listening to a song I've been singing along to since I was five and realizing how freaking dirty it is. I don't know how my parents kept a straight face.

I'm also the person who managed to get through Grease without realizing anyone was pregnant. I thought a "bad girl", you know, was someone who talked back to her parents or didn't pick up her room, and that was about it.

I still have a huge soft spot for 60s stuff like Simon & Garfunkel and Donovan. I was around 10 then.

I love disco. LOVE it. But then I was born in 1959 and so the 70s were my teenage years.

I was eleven when "Bridge Over Troubled Water" broke, and that song has been on my rotation list ever since. Saying I have a warm spot for that period would suggest that I have segregated it from my later tastes, however I never really left that music behind.

The closest I come to abandoning huge swaths of music are the periods when I switched formats (records to cassettes, cassettes to CDs), and economy dictated at the time what I replaced. Now between mp3s and Spotify, I have virtually everything I have ever owned on the other end of my mouse.
