Just about to plunk money down on this place in Paris. . . Getting cold feet, details within. . .[More:]the price jumps to $104 usd for two of us, for those dates. That still seems pretty decent. I have exchanged a few messages with the host. . .part of a gay couple, it looks like, which would be a plus.

I have done a fair amount of airbnb and VRBO surfing, and this seems like as good a deal as any. . .in the Republique area in Paris. . .I know nothing about Paris, but seems pretty close in but not overly touristy.

Any opinions that anyone would like to share?
I think it looks really nice and it's reasonably priced for Paris, far cheaper than the hotel I stayed at last summer.

I owe you an email about airbnb!

I just had my own first airbnb experience in Reykjavik, and my one salient observation is that people can have very different cleanliness expectations.

My travel partner and I found our apartment to be quite charming, but the lack of cleanliness was off-putting, and we spent more time cleaning than we wanted. Ultimately, I will not leave a bad review, but will share my feedback with the apartment owner, so she can perhaps improve this point in the future. I will also not leave a super-glowing review on the site.

The reviews on airbnb about the place you want to stay in Paris are all so pleasant, it almost seems like friends writing the reviews, which is what was the case with the place we stayed in Reykjavik. Your place seems like a cute bedroom in a great neighborhood, but I would be leery of staying in a small apartment with two other people I didn't know. We at least had an apartment to ourselves. Is Mrs. danf down with sharing a bathroom with three dudes?

Looks very nice, but I would rather not share a bathroom with the hosts if there was something else in the price range that had its own.

I'm not sure when you're traveling, but unless it's fall or winter, I'm not sure I'd stay in a place without A/C. I know it's not as standard in Europe as it in in the US, but it's one thing I'm comfortable spending extra on for spring or summer trips. A lot of Europe is absolutely miserably hot in July and August, and if you're doing touristy stuff (rather than sitting in an air-conditioned office, as you'd likely be if you lived there), you may want a cooler retreat.

It is in October. And mrsDanf is more down with having flat mates than I am because it would at least be some people connection in Paris. And as for cleanliness, she would say, hey gay guys which I know is stereotypical.

Since we're dealing in stereotypes, their Frenchness probably cancels out their gayness, cleanliness-wise.

Hey, I'm responding from the apartment I'm renting in Le Marais (about ten minutes by foot from where that apartment is). Our apartment (listed here) is right off Rue Saint Antoine and this is definitely a trendy and somewhat (though not overly) touristy area. The landlord is quite nice and gave us a number of recommendations for places to eat and has in general been quite responsive by email.

I've walked by where the apartment you list is located, and while I can't say much about what the neighborhood is like, the architecture is pretty nice. It's a fairly central area, and Paris in general is quite dense and thus almost everything is within walking distance.

I love the internet.

You guys are the best! I have not yet reserved it, but leaning towards it, because it will give me one less thing to obsess about.

VSB, I assume that by October you will no longer be there? Would have been great to meet up.
