Here's what I've got on my shuffle today...
1.
EUGENIUS - Buttermilk (Oomalama 1992) Former Vaselines/BMX Bandits guitarist/singer Eugene Kelly made two of my favorite albums as Eugenius before disbanding. Both records are guitar driven Scottish pop with less-than-perfect yet quite charming vocals.
2.
LES PAUL - Moritat (Legend and Legacy Box) Les Paul's version of "The Ballad of Mack the Knife".
3.
the MUFFS - Everywhere I Go (the Muffs 1993) Kim Shattuck's vocals are particularly Joan Fucking Jett on this one. Strangely, this song was also featured in a Fruitopia commercial.
4.
GRAHAM PARKER & the RUMOUR - Heat Treatment (Heat Treatment 1976) Lead track to Graham's second album.
5.
BUCK OWENS - Who's Gonna Mow Your Grass? (single 1969) With the fuzztone guitar and harpishord this has to be one of the weirdest songs in Buck's catalog. It's also one of my faves.
6.
MADNESS - Coldest Day (Mad Not Mad 1985) This was the final album from the original Madness before several comebacks over the next 25 years. This was their "serious record", which meant a lot of early fans weren't that fond of it. I liked it, but it's my least played album of their first 6 albums.
7.
the WHO - the Rock (Quadrophenia 1973) The last few months of 2012 were Who filled for me and the Mrs. We had already been on a monthlong Who kick (both of us were reading Who books which sparked a lot of Who on the stereo) when it was announced that they were touring Quadrophenia. We went to both Chicago shows and that upped the amount of Who played in the house and car even more than normal. My first two concerts were the Who and thirty years and a month later I got to see them two more times at the same venue.
8.
the ZOMBIES - Kind of Girl demo (Zombie Heaven box) Zombies on shuffle is always a good thing.
9.
SQUEEZE - Misadventure (Argybargy 1980) I love everything Squeeze did through Sweets from a Stranger, but especially love their hyper pop numbers like this one.
10.
MX-80 SOUND - Why Are We Here (Crowd Control 1981) From one of their two albums on Ralph Records (I discovered them via a Ralph comp). They played a weird hybrid of artrock and angular guitar rock, but with a surprisingly catchy pop sensibility.
Alright, what's on your shuffle?
