Amazing movie theatre in Queens [More:]Lovingly maintained by the church that now occupies it.
I love these golden age "movie palaces," so dedicated to fantasy and escape.

I loved how the detail of how the church congregation decided to put robes and wings on the nude statues.

Wow. I'll be in Queens next month and I really want to see this place.

I bet the place makes more money off tithing than it ever did showing movies.

That is ... staggering! Stunning! Amazing! It must have been such an experience to see a film in those surroundings, back in the days when going to see a film was a big event, with two films, maybe a newsreel and an actual intermission, not just a way to fill in a couple of hours at the shopping centre.

I'm not at all a big fan of ornate styling in a building, but the sheer labour that has gone into creating something like this just has to be admired. It's fantastic that it has been preserved and maintained.

Ha. I'm glad you like it as well.

When I'm in Amsterdam I like to go and watch a movie in the Tuschinski Theatre. Which is also very ornate. But it's not this extravagant.
