04 February 2013

Goals for the month I have a new idea! How about we all pick out some goals for the month of February and see how we can do on them?[More:] I know that there's Health Month, but that's more of a weekly thing.

By the end of the month, I will*...

1. Have a song picked out and at least half of the choreography written for the Extravadance duet piece.

2. Be finished sewing the gold costume bra.

3. Complete one other sewing project (probably a 3/4 circular veil for AKD).

4. Meet in person with my West pillar.

*You definitely want to use 'will' because that says that you're definitely going to do something. If you say something like 'I would like...' then you are subconsciously giving yourself weasely room.

So, what are y'all aiming to get done this month?
I will get my exercising back in order.
I will write at least three times per week.

Those sound like a good start to me, I tend to pile too much into a list and then things drop off or I decide have better things to do.

In February, I pledge to:

get rid of that almost-dead car parked in front of my apartment (in fact, I may accomplish that this week - maybe)

begin using the exercise bike on my front porch on a daily basis, even if it is just increasing my exercise time from three minutes to four

complete the design work on at least two of my long-hanging website ideas (as well as some content) to the point where I can unashamedly submit them to MeFi Projects (with at least one new site a month for the next four months)

Not pledged to complete in February, but to make significant progress with a March/April goal:

sort through the last of my mountain of paperwork (a job half-finished almost two years ago when interrupted by the death of my father, resulting in the sorting of a different mountain of possessions... which, come to think of it, isn't really finished either - another March Yard Sale is inevitable)

I feel tired already.

Inspired by this question on the green, I want to become more flexible. Whether or not I'll ever manage the splits I have no idea and seriously doubt I'll get that limber, but I pledge to stretch every day. I have already done my stretches for today.

I intend to run three times a week, and if it's just cold without the rain/snow that's predicted, that should be achievable. I mapped out a nice 6km run in my area that I'm dying to try.

I've been on a food and supplements regime to try to get my psoriasis in check, and I want to stick to this throughout February. Luckily I like fish and salad. I've been adding in things like pomegranate seeds and edamame into my salads. I read yesterday that, in addition to no red meat, dairy, wheat and citrus I should also eliminate nightshade vegetables - so no aubergines (eggplant), peppers and tomatoes, all of which I love and eat a lot of. But I'm willing to sacrifice this if it'll clear up this damned psoriasis. It's worth doing for February, to see if there's a difference.

I need to clear out my old clothes - I have too many grease-spotted t-shirts that I should get rid of, and things I haven't worn in a couple of years that I'll not wear again. I have to do this before the end of the month, so I can buy some new t-shirts in time for my holiday in March.

Directly related to grease-spotted t-shirts, I want to get back into the habit of wearing my apron when I'm cooking.

I wish you all luck but I'm not going to subject you to my horrifying list of things I want to accomplish in the next few weeks.

What a good suggestion!

I will begin actual exercise. PT is down to once per week and they said it's OK to exercise in moderation.

I will allow no more candy into this household.

I wil thoroughly clean everything I let slide during recovery and its general tiredness.

My goal is to email my best friends. I've fallen into a bad habit of just drive-by commenting on their facebook pages or whatever. Even up to a couple of years ago we would write really long emails every other week or so, and I felt a lot closer to them.

Oh, fun - I much prefer monthly lists instead of just yearly goals. (ok, I just like lists. :) )

I will -

1. Keep the craft room/bunny room organized so that I can work on sewing projects. (I just cleaned and organized it last month - it's taken years to get a functioning craft room. Now, I just have to not let things pile up again.)

2. Make progress on the shirt to dress pattern class that I am taking.

I'm working this month on getting up half an hour early on workdays to workout! The baby is sleeping well enough that I really shouldn't be using him as an excuse any more.

My goal is to cheer up by the end of the month, but it's gonna take a lot of work.

1) Go to the gym everyday

2) Start circulating the resume

3) Either not fuck my life up, or fuck my life up in a productive way

I will disclose my preexisting goals for end of February to you folks:

1. Drop 2-4 more pounds and get body fat % back under 30%

2. Be up to 8 mile long run by Feb 24

3. Finish the sweater (my FIRST EVER) I am currently knitting

4. Get planning for a September 2013 educational program squared away

5. Be done with cleaning the office closet and well on the way to clearing out other items in the office.
