12 October 2012

3 point weekend update! It's Friday in Melbourne so I'm celebrating my weekend. I'm more than ready for a break and am very relieved to not have to be in the office! My plans for the weekend are below. What are yours??[More:]
1: sew! I've taken up sewing and am making a muslin (mockup) of a new dress. It's a gorgeous pattern that I've loved for ages and I'm so excited to whip one up!
2: work. Sigh. My husband, The Chef, has opened a restaurant. Not sure if I've mentioned it on here. It's going really well, but I need to catch up on some paperwork.
3: social engagements! I've got an afternoon tea with my lovely neighbour and a dinner with a new friend. It's nice to be socialising, as I've been so busy lately that I feel like I've been in hiding unless I see people at the restaurant. Both events are really close to home, so I won't get lazy and back out. Home just seems more inviting, you know?

So that's me. Feeling good! Sorry it's been so long since I dropped by. Life, ya know?
We've missed you!

Tonight is work on some Sass stuff while the dryer & washing machine do their jobs.

Saturday: swim class for the monster, need to take the doggie to the beach and a B.A.T.H. & huge amounts of gardening

Sunday: taking monster to see Finding Nemo in 3D - hope I don't cry again! Also hope he can cope with the glasses.

Anyway bound to be busy busy busy as usual!

I like seeing your tweets about the restaurant!

1. Tonight I am hanging out with my sister and our family friend who is visiting from Argentina (she came in for my dad's wedding last weekend and stayed to visit)

2. Sat I am going to NJ (boo) for a wedding shower (double boo) but at least I get to see my friend the bride to be who I haven't seen in a few weeks. I am getting fed up with traveling to people's wedding and baby stuff. It's always ok once I get there but it really takes up the whole day! Plus figuring out car rentals etc.

3. Sunday afternoon I'm hanging out with my best friend and it's been way too long since I've seen her. She is coming over and then we are going out to dinner with the third member of our triumvirate who I also haven't seen in a while (since I quit my last job where he still works, actually). The apartment across the hall from mine opened up and I am going to try to convince him and his gf to move in since they are looking! It would be so much fun to have them so close. Part of the reason I don't see more of him is because they live in Williamsburg which is hugely inconvenient to get to from my part of Brooklyn.

I need to get out of the house more!
This working from home thing has been nice but wow am I getting a little stir crazy.

1. Today I have an appointment with the pdoc for refills but I also need to go to the post office to mail the wedding gifts for my brother, a birthday card for an internet friend's kid, and a Halloween card for my homie. I also need to clean my house and write a paper for my South pillar. And I have bellydance class and zumba class tonight.

2. Saturday looks to be fairly clear which means I'll probably be going shopping with my mother. I need to go to Container Store so we'll prolly do that.

3. Sunday I have work for a few hours in the morning and then I'm off to a preparatory meeting for next weekend's Samhain ritual and have an herb workshop that I'm attending afterwards.

Whew! I'm tired just looking at my calender.

We've been missing both of you. =P

This working from home thing has been nice but wow am I getting a little stir crazy. - same here! Even just 3 days a week. Although I'm sure I'll miss it when I go back to the office at the end of the month.

Today- Oliver and I take a trip to Whole Foods in NJ to meet up with bilabial. Doing an experiment to see if I can take my stroller in the NJ188 bus. Hope so because, uh, I'm bringing it. It's not rush hour, so hopefully it'll be OK. Oliver's bow-tie onesies came yesterday, so I think I'll have him wear one. I'm also going to buy some quinoa- been hearing a lot about it on blogs, would like to test it out.

Tomorrow- There's a harvest festival at a nearby park, maybe that? Or maybe just hanging at home. There's a Mefi meetup near Times Square at 7; I will probably stop by for an hour or two.

Sunday- Church. Who knows what else.

1. Tonight is Skype roleplaying!

2. Tomorrow is IKEA and then down the Coast to a friend's place to babysit for their kids while they go do anniversary things.

3. Sunday will hopefully be sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeping.

1. Yay! Just purchased tickets to the Sufjan Stevens Christmas Sing-A-Long Seasonal Affective Disorder Yuletide Disaster Pageant On Ice to be held the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Super excited about that one.

2. In-laws are coming for a visit. We just saw them last weekend, but they want to go to the State Fair, so there's that.

3. I am sick again. I've been sick for over a month, took the antibiotics and steroids like a good girl, and I am right back where I started, sneezing and coughing like a fool. I leave Tuesday for the west coast, and I really need to kick this crap outta my chest. Any suggestions?

Jealous of your Sufjan tix, msali!

1. Tomorrow we have to deal with the car-sized pile of mulch left behind when they ground the stump from our beautiful oak tree, which we lost to a fungus and had to have removed last week. Still heartbroken about it, plus holy shit, LOTS O' MULCH. (Before/after pic of tree removal, pic of the stump)

2. Labor Day to early November is prime "festival" season in Atlanta, so we were busy last weekend going to two different art shows; next weekend, we have another art fest plus the annual Scottish Highland Games. That means THIS weekend we have to do practical stuff like grocery shop, catch up on laundry, etc, so that'll probably occupy a lot of the weekend.

3. Sunday night: new season of The Walking Dead starts! And there's a new episode of The Walking Dead game out this week! Will likely play the game tonight, then catch the show Sunday. Psyched.

1. Going to see Seven Psychopaths today. Considering how low my opinion is of movies I saw this summer, this one would only have to be mildly entertaining to be the best of the bunch.

1a. I have been watching the 60s Batman series. All the episodes appear to be on Youtube now.

2. Recovered from what appeared to be a reaction to a painkiller I took on Tuesday. I never have liked those things.

3. Really excited about this current piece of music I am writing.

1. Met a friend last night who got forced out of his job, and we wallowed in our sorrows.

2. Meeting a friend tonight who's dealing with crazy, drug-addicted relatives, and we're going to wallow in our sorrows.

3. Meeting a friend tomorrow night who quit the job she hated, and may have to move with her parents which she'll hate. We're going to wallow in our sorrows.

So, I have to wallow three times, but they only wallow once. It doesn't seem fair.

I also hate it when other people have more serious problems than I do, because it means I should be grateful for what I have. But I don't feel like being grateful just now.

Fri night: Read.

Sat: Quick mall run to return a coat. Clean. Laundry.

Sun: Clean. Play with pups.

That's what I get for doing absolutely nothing last week cleaning-wise.

1. I won a ticket to a show for Saturday. The show is an A$AP Rocky show. I attempted to ask my office crush to this and I wish I had not.

2. I'm reading commentary on Heidegger. It's slow going. There's a lot to wrap one's head around.

3. I'm organizing an office happy hour in two weeks. It's like herding cats. I think it'll be ok, but when people ask me how it's going it's hard not to snap a little bit that when people don't respond to emails, it makes planning difficult.

Oh-IIIII-o! I'm visiting a friend in Columbus this weekend. The weather is supposed to be lovely and fall has been just gorgeous in the Midwest so far, so I am anticipating a nice walking-around weekend.

Since I'm not sure what she has planned, that'll have to cover all three points.

1) Cram-stress-studying for an exam I have in...5 hours. Then I get to drive an hour and a half home. Cranky.

2) Work tomorrow (and a little bit Sunday).

3) Spend all other time trying to catch up on sleep/watching baseball playoffs and NFL games.

Social life? Ha.

1. Migraine.

2. Extra dose of caffeine. Turn down screen brightness. Try not to hurl. Maybe lie down in a dark room.

and maybe 3: Back to normal, please oh please?

Occhiblu, if you get the chance, go to German Town (very quaint) and the Short North, which is full of really interesting stores and galleries, and the indoor food market, the North Market, where they sell Jeni's ice cream. And if you have a car, go to Rush Creek Village in Worthington - it's a hidden gem, 1950s houses designed by a protege of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Oh and if you go to the German Village, you have to go to the Book Loft. So much fun. I occasionally miss Columbus but it goes away when I start thinking about the winter weather :o)

Tonight, a professional event.

Saturday, sleep in some, try to get to yoga class, finish uploading my better pix from recent trip to Flickr, do some office work, and (hopefully) check out a movie with the Bear.

Sunday, sleep in for real, play with and brush the pup, and maybe just hang out with herbal tea and a book. That would be sweet.

1. Just got back from seeing Seven Psychopaths. Funny movie but very very violent. Like Texas Chain Saw violent. But very smart and very meta.

2. Brick masons are showing up at 8 AM tomorrow so no sleeping in. Someday this house will be finished.

3. Ran a 8 minute 19 second mile this week which is pretty slow for anyone who's really a runner but as fast as I've run in decades.

Short North is definitely on the itinerary, I think for tomorrow.

1. Easy day today. It's an off-weekend for major chores, so no groceries, no laundry. I've got my eye on the kitchen and bathroom, though.

2. Grading papers is on the agenda. 1st Marking Period ends Friday (we have 6 throughout the year). Maybe put up another DonorsChoose proposal or two. The kids are loving the Independent Reading books we got for our Classroom Library. They make such a difference. Students who used to refuse to read or said the "hated" reading are now reading. (By the way, DonorsChoose is matching any donations given this weekend, dollar for dollar, through Monday, 10/15/12, with the match code PUMPKIN, entered at the checkout phase, in case anyone's interested -- no pressure, of course, but for anyone who might want to give to DonorsChoose anyway, it's nice to know your money could count double--to see my projects, just search "Sheiman" on the site, but there are many, many worthy projects).

3. Jon's bringing me supper tonight -- a fried chicken sandwich he brought for me once before that was so moist and yummy, and something called Brunswick Stew, which apparently has Lima beans, which I love. Bless that man. Tomorrow I may make some lamb chops or roast an oven stuffer, I haven't decided. I've got both in the freezer. I do like to cook on the weekend when I can -- just too tired during the week.

It is wet and gloomy and chilly outside, so I am making baked beans in the slow cooker. I'm not a huge huge fan of beans, but this is my favorite slow cooker recipe because the ONLY prep work is chopping up an onion. There's no browning, no sauteeing, no nothin' -- just put the stuff in the cooker and walk away. Cooking doesn't get much more not-cooking than that.

And if anybody's got any more slow cooker recipes like that I wanna hear them.

1. Wife and I saw The Perks of Being a Wallflower Friday night. I liked it way more than I expected. It is a hard movie to watch, sort of disguised in a teen-coming-of-age movie.

2. Last night we went to our local ballet, for Dark Side of the Moon, which featured a very good and very loud Pink Floyd cover band, doing the whole album, with some incredible modern ballet for each song. Quite extraordinary.

3. Daughter's coming today! She's moving in with her GF. They are getting an apt. on East Burnside, so she's bringing extra stuff down to store. She has been so careful and deliberate with this relationship that I have a lot of trust that this is the right move. The apt. is a block away from the Doug Fir, so the neighborhood is not the best, but oh well.

Lucky those who are included at weddings and baby showers.

Friday:Movie glut temple and contacted more people about the memorial. Finally said kaddish. Mindy was raised a Catholic, but this is my ritual.

Saturday: Went to PiL. Lydon called out a bodyguard for bullying someone in the audience. He's far more engaged performing with PiL than the Sex Pistols.

Today: Off to LA for a week for my father's talk about the Pickwick. It's been moved from Musso's to a bookstore across the street. I want to hear what Daddy has to say, but I don't fucking want to be around my ogress of a mother.
