(In a Voice Like John Oliver on the Bugle. . .)PROSTATE CANCER UPDATE NOW! [More:]Met with the Dr. and the bottom line is to leave stuff alone and go back in 6 months for another PSA and digital rectal exam and then another (gasp) biopsy in a year.

Out of 12 cores (which turned out to be almost the whole depth of the prostate) they found some cancer in 2, but only like 5% in one and 10% in the other.

My case turns out to be a classic example of what is getting written about in the media these days. Small, slow-growing cancers which may, or may not, be problematic in the future, but are not now.

So "active surveillance," as they say, and going on with life.
Well, semi-congratulations and welcome to the club of People With Conditions They Need to Monitor. It beats testing your blood sugar three times a day (except on the days you get a biopsy).

Yay! Except for the exams/biopsy, good news! Happy you are mostly OK and that no one is planning to remove your prostate anytime in the immediate future.

That great news! My grandfather had surgery for his (I think his was more advance) and I think the complications have been more painful and annoying than leaving it would have been.

Happy to hear it's (mostly) good news.

Foop: I didn't know you were in the Bunnies Diabetes Club, too. Lucky you! /sarcasm

I am happy to hear it's not aggressive and that active surveillance is mostly what's called for.

Is removal an option? My understanding is that men who've done this can still have orgasms, but they just won't ejaculate.

Yeah brujita. If it gets worse, removal seems a better option than radiation. It is a crapshoot, perhaps slightly in my favor, whether stuff will "work" afterwards, but even if it doesn't, at least the cancer is gone and I have other ways of "relating."

But for now, "sitting" on it is far the best option.

FWIW, my grandfather had his taken out in his late 70's and his 2nd wife made it very clear that they were regularly having sex....in fact my mother (his DIL)once walked in on them!

Excellent. Good to hear.

My uncle had robotic surgery for prostate cancer yesterday.
