Want to feel better about reading Metachat at work? [More:]I just read the following statistics in a presentation about JC Penney:

"Netflix consumed 20% of [JC Penney's] corporate internet bandwidth during work hours"

I do my fair share of loafing on the job, but I haven't even considered just watching a movie or TV show. That's hardcore.
We watch movies/tv at work all the time. It gets boring here in the afternoons and as long as you keep the sound down, no one cares.

Having two monitors makes watching TV/movies really tempting. Alas, the cube pit is too open and people are always walking by.

Movies, TV at work? Meh. A live band? That's hardcore.

One of our main guys has a PC next to his Mac just so he can stream soccer all day.

Man, I feel guilty streaming radio.

Interesting. Streaming radio is blocked at my job so I suspect Netflix is too. It makes sense given a large portion of the employees in my region are considered mobile so they have laptops and use wireless to get to the network.

I stream music all day most work days, and from now on will never feel bad about it again.

There are three of us in the Business Office, and two of us have different Pandora stations on almost all the time.

This week I tried having three windows tiled on my giant monitor: two software apps I need to do my (monotonous data entry) work, and a third that had streaming TV. It worked very well, but I felt soooo guilty about it. I probably won't do it again, but it was fun the one time. I usually listen to music all day.

I have a radio at my desk.

I read the NY Times during the students' silent/Independent reading in the morning. I'm allowed to read during this time, but the iPad looks better than having a newspaper spread out.

Wow, Pips, you have an iPad that you take to school... you would've been the "grooviest" teacher evar if you would've done that here... never mind that the kids would've probably not gotten any reading done during silent hour (such an ingenious idea by the way); they would've had a great time I bet.

I'm watching Netflix right now, at work, while commenting on MeCha! I don't use company bandwidth though, I use my cell phone data. Since January, I have watched nearly all of the Law & Order on Netflix, less than ten episodes left, which means I'm watching pretty much all day at work. What comes after L&O, I have no idea...

Easy, SVU!

That's not easy. That's some tense to uncomfortable TV, at least for me.

I listen to music at work, it's too quiet or I get distracted by other conversations if I don't. But I usually bring in USB sticks full of weirdness, as changing CDs would be annoying.

My confession: From time to time, I download music from random music hosting websites (no torrenting!) at work. I generally delete the compressed archives after unpacking, and move the music to a USB drive soon there-after, but I realize I have a few albums squirreled away here and there on my hard drive.

Easy, SVU!

Maybe I should have clarified - all of the L&O meant *all* of the L&O. I started with the original, then SVU, and now I'm finishing CI. o_O

Sometimes I also listen to the police scanner on my phone, but that's usually when I'm at home and can't sleep. Once, I heard about someone's parrot being stolen.
