Nostalgia I started watching Portlandia this weekend, noticed Kyle MacLachlan playing the mayor of Portland... and got to thinking. Twin Peaks! I can't believe anyone ever let David Lynch have a TV show... [More:] and then at the coffee shop today they were playing the soundtrack to Twin Peaks. I had a moment of nostalgia. Anyone else have a moment of nostalgia lately? Please share!
I heartily recommend the Dual Spires episode of Psych. Believe it's in the last season available on NFI.

That show really makes great use of its guest stars.

Last night my boyfriend and I made popcorn in an air popper. Totally brought both of us back to childhood.

halonine, I've been seriously thinking of watching all of "Twin Peaks" again, especially since it supposedly happens in February, I think. Maybe try to watch it an episode or two every night for the month.

I went on a little ELO binge over the weekend... been humming "Strange Magic" all week. I used to listen to that song at my grandparents' house, on an album I think was left there by my youngest aunt when she left for college. Good times.

Heh, lately I have been trying to avoid anything with even a whiff of nostalgia. This is my year to plow virgin ground. Even the music I have chosen recently, while old or even ancient, is new to me.

I've had a Kool-Aid pitcher and Kool-Aid mugs, like the kind my Mom saved our Kool-Aid points for when we were kids) for a few years now (late night eBay purchase), but this week, I actually bought Kool-Aid powder and mixed myself some of that sweet, sweet nectar. It's wonderful.

I wish nostalgia still worked for me. After the moment of recognition, most things don't bear out, and i hate that, along with the fact people like things just for the recognition.
Mere exposure doesn't work as well on me and that kind of sucks.
Music I loved use to be like breathing fresh air.
All I look for are things that could inspire love, or even momentary satisfaction. I think the fairly newly acquired ADD interferes with that.

I do want to try David Lynch's coffee, and Twin Peaks almost always inspires that moment of warm recognition for me. I haven't listened to Julee Cruise or Angelo Badalamente in ages but I bet I would get that feeling.
It's so personal, who knows what would translate, if only for a moment. Maybe anything I didn't beat to death for love of it in lieu of new pleasures.
I will report back if it matters.

A few days before Christmas I flew to Montreal (where I grew up), then at New Years I flew from there to NC (where I'm in school) and I'm about to fly back to CA (where I work).

Just this morning I attended a lecture all about nostalgia, with specific reference to Wordsworth and Emerson.

I loved Twin Peaks, and coincidentally I just earlier this evening got a long, funny call from the ex with whom I watched the whole thing as it unfolded. He's in IN (where I lived for nearly ten years).

I guess I'm feeling a little deracinated, here in this funny little dorm room. And I miss lots of things and lots of people from everywhere. But it'll be good to be snug in my little backyard cottage and to curl up with my dog.
