Easy Food Gift [More:]So a few days ago I became obsessed with making apple chips. As a result, my house smells divine and I'd like to share the very easy recipe. I baked up a bunch of these, stacked some in a cellophane bag with a pretty ribbon and gave them as a little hostess gift. They were eaten in less than 2 minutes by the host and hostess. They don't last long around here either.

Get 4 apples. I started with Honeycrisps and ended up preferring Granny Smiths.

Slice them using a mandolin so that you have very thin slices. Take out the obvious seeds and bits of core.

Combine 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water in a large saucepan. Heat and stir just until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and cool a little. Now put in the apple slices and stir around so they all soak up some sugar water. Let sit about 10 minutes or longer.

Preheat the oven to 250. Line a couple of cookie sheets with parchment paper. Put apple slices on sheets, first shaking off excess liquid. Sprinkle very lightly with cinnamon sugar. They're going to be sweet already from the sugar water so go easy on the cinnamon sugar. They should not overlap and you will probably end up making 2 batches of 2 trays each. They shrink considerably.

Bake for 45 minutes and then rotate the trays in the oven, swapping the top and the bottom and also spin them around so the slices that were in the back are now in the front.

Bake for 45 minutes more and then take out one slice as a test. It should firm up within a minute or two of being out of the oven. I like them crunchy, my hub likes them a little chewy.

These. Are. So. Good.

I hope you enjoy them.
I'll have to try this.

Sounds wonderful!

Your idea of easy is more involved than mine. But I will try this when there's more time. Yummy.

Yummmm. I've always meant to try making apple rings --- you just might have tipped me over the edge!

Question: do you peel the apples or leave the skins on?

Leave the skins on. You won't even notice them when they're cooked. I made 3 apples this morning and they're gone. Just so crispy and sweet and apple-y!

Who would you want to look like if you were the opposite gender? || So our cat Guinness is going to lose one of his legs.
