So I got a call from the CDC [More:] It was just a survey, but I told the woman when I get a call from the CDC, I expect to hear about a new plague or that I am being notified I have contracted a serious disease. She kind of freaked out a little, having been thrown off script, then I immediately added that I didn't have kids. This confused her for a few more minutes, she found her place in the script, recalled that I just said I didn't have kids, and thanked me for my time.

I use to be so mean to telemarketers and phone people, but in those days, they called all day, every day, and I decided to use them mercilessly for the purpose of stress relief.

Anyway, I just stumbled onto this site from an old Savage Love. Ah, diseases, they are everywhere. Do the right thing and/or pass the info along. I feel like it shouldn't be restricted to STDs.
There's a bit about scabies in there, too, jonmc!
Personally, it makes me want to just start sending out cards, but I can't think of anyone I know right now in a position to believably contract an STD. I don't know if that's good or bad.

I thought they'd ask you what you thought of the CDC episode of "Walking Dead"...

Eth, are you on the "do not call" list?

I'm talking about ages ago before they existed.
I thought they excepted charities and surveys, last I did one. I haven't bothered since I had a landline. It's new and unexpected for me on a mobile, first I've had.

We screen all our calls. My favorite Comcast feature is that we can see who's calling on our TV screen (and decline to answer.) We are on the do not call list, but that does not prevent the irksome political robo calls, the charities etc.

I enjoy not answering questions from strangers on the phone very much indeed.

On the rare occasions I pick up the phone and one of these folks is on the other end, I ask them to contact us by mail if at all and hang up.

I hate the phone pretty much. Especially if I have to call someone who is not one of my standard 3 folks I call. I figured out that part of the problem is that I need visual social clues to be comfortable because I'm such a wuss about stepping over any boundaries or causing anyone an inconvenience. I'd be a terrible telemarketer.

My usual is to get straight to getting me off the list, but I switch it up now and then. I'm not even sure where the thing about kids came from, but bingo. Now I wonder if it was about vaccinations.
