10 December 2011

I am trying to describe the crowd in my local bar... they're not regulars, but they are very uniform. It's not the Santa Con people, they're wearing outfits and playing pool...[More:]

40ish, middle to upper class in fashions popular when they where in High School. There is a streak of Cool Uncle in there. Hair is big. Outer Borough accents trending toward Jersey, not Long Island (I am from jersey I know these things). None of them seem to know each other but they are all part of some kind of overall group, almost like a meetup of sorts. They are very much partying.

the average crowd at this place is Older Gay Men Reading iPads and Listening to Sinatra so this is just wut.

Class reunion with a theme?

quite possibly. Hot Tuna is playing a gig nearby and this is like The Only Bar, but unlike say when the Allman Brothers play when you get a strong Original Flavor Hippie/Biker crowd, the folks are much more dressed up. Maybe ex-Jeffison Airplane bands play to a different crowd.

OH GOD IT JUST HIT ME IT IS A BAR FULL OF WALTER BISHOPS

How old are you?
Let them have their fun.

They're having fun! I don't mind, it was just so clearly a GROUP THING that I was trying to figure out just what group they belonged to.

They're better then the drunk college kids who crash in from time to time.

Here's a thought, be generous and educate them. be accessible and bring them up to date. if you don't feel generous, ignore them.

I find generativity work in both directions. I can educate in both directions.

I just thought it was amusing my local got invaded by such a clearly definable group which is now apparently Fans Of Hot Tuna. I am the one who feels educated.

Enjoy it. They are.
Ah, revelry.

This is exactly what I want, yet cannot find, in a bar around here.

"IT IS A BAR FULL OF WALTER BISHOPS" That sounds like great fun to watch.

If the bar is full of Arthur Bishops, you may want to run.

(... but you can't hide.)

I can hide. Anywhere any time. An effect of the Cortexiphan.

Would really really really like to hang out in this bar. I would go to a bar like this by myself, and that's saying something.

Saw a pub crawl parade last night - Christmas sweaters. They were having a Very Good Time.

Last night was Santa Con, I saw people dressed as presents. Theme pub crawls at least show a little effort.

I missed Hot Tuna? Damn!

I had dinner in the fairway cafe looking out onto the beacon where hot tuna was playing. I was close to the whelk!
