The Magnetic Fields - Strange Powers [More:]I looked it up after this was played during the end credits of the last episode of Bored to Death.
Had never heard of this band. Strangely hypnotic.
Magnetic Fields are insanely great. And they have a LOT of good music out there.

Old stuff:
"Fear of Trains"
"100,000 Fireflies"

Middle stuff:
"You And Me And The Moon"
"Busby Berkeley Dreams"

Newer stuff:
"California Girls"
"Dada Polka"

I really love Bored to Death.
I got a big Magnetic Fields discography a while ago because of their vocal and devoted fans. A friend of mine loves the love songs album so much he's afraid their other stuff won't live it up it.

live up to it. Oy, the typos. I really should be studying.

There's a recent documentary about them. If you do the Netflix thing, it's streaming.

I've loved them for twenty years. And yes, the documentary is great - and one of the few movies that I've wanted to see that was actually on Netflix streaming!

I also loved the doc but I took a friend who didn't know the band that well or all the songs like I did, and she came out of it less impressed. "Who's this weird dude and why do people accommodate him?"

oh yeah - I knew some of the people interviewed and I have had years of familiarity with the music and the people in the band. I don't think you would enjoy it nearly as much if you didn't.
