Solved a catbox mystery. Now to find a solution. [grossness spoilers] [More:] I have been feeding Sookie a diet that includes hairball remedies. All well and good, she has not hacked up a hairball since I've had her. However, periodically she gets a poop stuck in the fur near her hind quarters that inevitably winds up in the middle of the floor which I discover in the usual way.

I thought it was due to beef in her diet, but when I eliminated the beef, the problem continued. Today, I figured it out. Not hairballs, but hairpoops!

Time for the weekly 'butter on the paw' treatment.
The good news is I can start feeding her the beef flavors and add back the pates. I try to give her as much variety as I can.

My mom used to put a dab of Vaseline on our cat's nose, years ago, to prevent hairballs. Got so used to it, that eventually you could have it on your finger, and he'd lick it off willingly. Never had a problem from either end. :^)

Vaseline, eh? I wouldn't think a cat would like that, but then, cats are weird. I will try it.

Petromalt always seemed to work for my cats, which is essentially malt flavored Vaseline.
