Your Madonna Top Three: Back during the last Dr. Sketchy Con, we came up with the Top Madonna Three, your three favorite Madonna songs and how they reveal your personality.
[More:]

True Blue

Vogue

Open Your Heart

All of which betray a mind mildly occupied with surfaces and the desire for the simple pleasures of pop music and a need for stylish adherence to narrative rules.

A friend came up with

Like A Prayer

Express Yourself

Ray Of Light

which betrays a more action oriented, goal driven take on glamor and wish fulfillment.

What are Your Top Three Madonna Songs?
Live to Tell, def. #1.

and then probably
Crazy for You and Cherish.

Not sure what that says about me. But I remember skipping through Grand Central 10 minutes before closing time, belting out Madonna at the top of my lungs. The girl I was with said, "No way you're straight." That is my Madonna story. THE END.

Her only song that I can name is Like A Virgin, so I can only imagine what you all think of that.

This is harder than I would have thought.

Live to Tell is by far her best song IMHO but after that there are a dozen or so I like pretty well.

I'll go with Live to Tell, Deeper and Deeper, Into the Groove.

Like a Prayer, Vogue, Music.

This says I like sexy music videos?

My wife has been a big Madonna for most of her life so I can name lots of her songs but I couldn't say that any are favorites.

True Blue and La Isla Bonita definitely. #3 is either Who's that Girl or Beautiful Stranger.

It seems to say I like old school Madonna. And romance. And I wonder who unknown people are?

Ray of Light, Frozen and probably Don't Stop.

Vogue, Material Girl and Like a Prayer.

Hanky Panky, This Used to be Our Playground and Sooner or Later. This means that I like the songs she does for movies. :)

Corollary note: Is the last one still a Madonna song if Stephen Sondheim wrote it? I will never forget her performance at the Oscars (with a bonus of younger Billy Crystal).

Cherish -- it's pretty close to a perfect pop song in my opinion, and she manages to loosen up more than usual.
Dress You Up In My Love -- it's LIKE Material Girl, but just cool enough to be in a Gap commercial!
Like a Prayer -- man, did I love this song when it came out. Now I realize how simple it is, but hey, it works.

Gosh, that last one is hard. I thought of Ray of Light or Open Your Heart, too.

IMHO, this is Madonna at her sexiest. (But maybe I'm just an old-fashioned guy.)

1. Material Girl - a perfect pop song

2. Ray of Light - one of her most successful reinventions

3. Beautiful Stranger - I love the Sixties vibe of this.

I admire Madonna immensely. She's the same age as me, and she's managed to stretch a very thin vocal talent a long, long way. Her voice sounds as if she's inhaled helium, but she has a great knack for seizing upon a trend and making it her own (cf. Vogue). I don't know how anyone can listen to a whole album of Madonna singing - I love her on the radio, just one song I can sing along to.

Ooh, I love Beautiful Stranger! Good call.

I liked stuff from the Ray of Light album. Power of Goodbye, To Have and not to hold. And I enjoyed Hung Up very much.

1. Live to Tell
2. Frozen
3. Love Don't Live Here Anymore

It's really hard to pick just a few favourites; the woman can really put out good pop songs. I know I picked all ballads, but I really like a lot of her dance numbers as well.

Someone with a good jazz voice needs to cover Sooner Or Later like yesterday, it's a very good torch song built around Madonna's not-super-great voice. Someone with real chops could blast it out of the park.

(besides her draw was always Dancing/Costumes, the Marie Antoinette/VOuge thing from the VMAs was great)

Although Post-Ray Of Light ended her streak of having at least one super-catchy radio-perfect single per album. Hung Up is the only one that comes close and it cheats cause it uses an obvious Abba riff and Abba is CHEATING.

but it's an impressive run, pretty much a decade and change of pumping out legit dance hits.
