30 October 2011

Sunday 3-point update [More:]
1. I got home from Ohio today - travelling through Chicago where I got to have pizza with Youngergirl and her bf. We were served by Count Dracula (the Mexican one).

2. I had a fantastic time in Ohio, but had to cancel my side trip to North Carolina due to Diane's heavily pregnant daughter being hospitalised in Ohio, so I didn't get to meet mightshould, which I am really sad about. But a new baby arrived (Diane's daughter-in-law produced Ezra a week earlier than expected) so there will be two new babies in the family within a week.

3. I'm relaxing, getting ready for work tomorrow, the laundry almost done, Lucy curled up next to me (and SO happy to see me - she's never been by herself for so long before, on my previous long trips Bailey was with her), the fridge full of food, and me in my jammies already. I cleared my desk before I left, so I'm hoping there won't be anything too nasty awaiting my return to the office tomorrow.
New babies, yayyy!

1. My last day at my job was Friday. It was rough, but I feel really good about deciding to leave. The whole day felt surreal. I joined the company the week after I graduated from college, and I've become a real adult since then.

2. I was supposed to go to Baltimore yesterday, but the stupid snow in the mountains made me nervous. So instead, I've camped out at my parents'. They had a dinner party last night, and I realized that all the guests thought that I was unemployed and living with my parents. Oops.

3. I have a rigorous schedule of running, yoga, girly stuff, and socializing planned for my time off (I start the new job on the 14th.) I'm worried about wasting my time off. It's very tempting to spend the entire time in sweatpants rotating between lazing on my couch, the floor, and the bed. I need some sort of relaxation accountability coach

I move to(ward) Seattle on Thursday.
I have less stuff than I thought.
Having fun learning Ace Frehley's guitar solos from Kiss "Alive".

1. Stoked for Samhain. I don't have a ritual planned out or anything, but I went to a workshop for it last night and we discussed ancestor shrines, so I think I'll set that up as part of my circle and card drawing.

2. It seems like the funk that set in on Wednesday might be lifting a bit. It could be time, or it could be that I picked up some icky energy when at Homewood because I felt better after using some of the cleansing liquid that was made for the divination share and the workshop. I haven't had a depressive episode last that long for a while.

3. I seriously need to quit spending money. Did I really need a book on Celtic Tree mysteries? Or that really cute bag? No, especially since I still have a shitton of reading to do for school (about 6 weeks left, eek!) and for ACA.

1. Yesterday I went to the opera. It seems like everyone there is a good 15 or 20 or 25 years older than I am. I have no idea what that means.

2. It snowed last night, got about 4 inches maybe. Wet and gloppy snow. It will be gone soon, which is good because I haven't done my favorite fall chore of raking leaves yet.

3. In honor of the snow I busted out the slow cooker and there will be beans baked in maple syrup for dinner tonight. The only problem with the slow cooker is that it makes the house smell SO GOOD for HOURS, and I'll have this ravenous appetite all afternoon and will want to eat everything in sight.

1. I accepted a new job on Friday. Once they do the background check, we'll set a start date (likely 11/28 so I can take Thanksgiving week off) and I'll give notice to my current job. I'm happy as I'll be working with my former manager (who is the awesome). Large pay raises are also happy making plus I'll be a librarian-type person again (that MLIS won't be a waste after all!).

2. I had lunch and saw The Three Musketeers (in 3D) with a coworker yesterday. I thought the movie was pretty good but not outstanding. I'd give it a 3 while the Tim Curry/Chris O'Donnell one is a 4. Evil Orlando Bloom was amusing. Airships were awesome.

3. Today I'm trying a chicken & dumplings crockpot recipe. A (different) coworker wants a penguin hat so I'll finish that today. I also want to finish the Christmas gift hat for my bff's toddler today. Add in Doritos and Once Upon A Time tonight and it'll be a chilly but good day.

1. I am planning on carving pumpkins today. I bought large amounts of candy yesterday. I will be prepared for the Halloween onslaught tomorrow.

2. I returned unacceptably grody products (rotted lettuce, larva-infested birdseed) at two different stores yesterday rather than just throwing them away, which is what I would usually do with under-$10 stuff. The customer service people were super-nice and apologetic, and I felt proud of myself.

3. Currently watching football and goggling at the snowdrifts on the sidelines. It was 86 here yesterday and should be 89 today.

1. Got a friend in town who's been hanging out with us on a stop-over while moving from South Carolina to Arkansas. We stayed up till the wee hours last night having music-geek conversations and playing each other music, and it was awesome.

2. I'm on vacation! (Well, a stay-cation, but still.)

3. We just made an impromptu trip to Wuxtry Records and spent a couple of hours digging through the stacks... I found an edition of the first 13th Floor Elevators album that's in stereo instead of mono (apparently it was mixed this way, but issued in mono for financial reasons) so I'm pretty tickled about that.

BoPo, staycations can be as wonderful as awaycations.

1. Finally cleaned out and reorganized my pantry. Stuff in there was dated to 2006!! Yikes! It was a nice sense of accomplishment.

2. Dug out from the icy snow dusting that coated my area. And refilled my bird feeders, and they seemed to appreciate that.

3. In a moment, I'll be doing a practice run on my son's Halloween makeup for his demon costume. I've got candy they don't know about, so we're all set for trick or treaters.

It is too hot to be carving pumpkins. I got them scraped out, but I'm leaving the rest till later. This is *not* appropriately spooky/foggy/howling wind Halloween weather. Ugh.

1. All has been quiet the past two nights on the home front! Imagine that, sleeping two straight nights on a weekend without being woken up by your noisy neighbors. What a luxury.

2. BBQ chicken in the slow cooker for dinner. And Parmesan crushed potatoes for a snack. Mmmmmm.

3. Wishing there was a way to earn a few extra hundred dollars a month from the comfort of my own home without having to inconvenience myself, expose myself, or, ya know, work too hard. Now where's my genie lamp...

1. The mister is at the tail-end of two weeks of vacation that should be sick time, but whatever (unions fuck up now and then).*

2. My shoulder still kind of hurts from getting a flu shot last week, but at least I haven't gotten sick from it.

3. Mum's cataract surgery went well. Her housekeeper/friend is going to take care of her during the second surgery.

*He's been recovering from the +/- two weeks of going in and out of afib prior to that. He's doing better, but they discovered that the meds were destroying his thyroid. Oops. Apparently, with his thyroid acting up there's no way he can stay out of afib. Double oops. They've stopped most of his meds and started a different one. Plus he's staying in afib as that's less dangerous than going in and out of it.

1. Just got back from a weekend in snowy, power-failed Massachusetts. Was a nice visit until the foot of snow pulled down the powerlines. Not sure what my sister is going to do since it's going down to 17 tonight and she has electric heat.

2. Came back to Pittsburgh Airport this afternoon to find a flat tire on the Honda. Now I'm going to have to limp around with a spare until I have time to get it fixed.

3. Saw a pretty cool stage adaptation of Graham Greene's The End of the Affair on Thursday. Quantum Theater does all of their productions in abandoned buildings and builds bleachers and a stage and lighting systems just for a month's run. Each production is at a different site so half the fun is just finding it. Felt a little bad for the two lead actors since the old clinic building wasn't really heated and they had to spend half of the play naked.
