Wear purple tomorrow for LGBTQ solidarity and the It Gets Better project.→[More:] I'm frankly shocked at how many gay and gay rights interested people I run into who have not heard about the It Gets Better project.
The thing is, you learn in social psychology that whenever there is a publicized suicide, suicide and accident rates go up, but I haven't heard anything about a raise in suicide or accident rates lately and assumed that they were actually down from the It Gets Better project. But I ran into a bunch of psych majors who were all yelling about the publicized suicides, and they had never heard about the It Gets Better project. Doesn't it seem like it is pretty well known, or am I just clueless?

I will dig out something purple, just because I can. It isn't the best color on me, but I can rock it when I need to. Happily, it will be chilly enough tomorrow that I can pretty much wear whatever I like and say any reasons for it.

I saw a few people in purple, but very few. Still, anything at all is good. I got one teacher to change clothes for her other classes. I only knew because I got an email, so I think awareness was low. Every one I mentioned it to who would have didn't know. Oh well, fight the fight, I say.

i heard that a lot today. I don't think it was well publicized.
I have been listening to the Savage love podcast a lot and I really want to call in and ask him a lot of different things (I have learned so many odd niche things lately), but really want to know if suicides have gone up or not because of the publicity and if he knows that fact about social psychology. I don't think they have figured out why it is, I mean it happens in Papua, New Guinea, but I'd hate to think rates are rising. I was sure they were dropping because of community interaction and awareness but apparently there was a suicide just the other day that sounded like it was probably more caused by depression. Only 50% of suicides are caused by major depression. The others, well, they don't know.
