Daily affirmations: You are Good Enough! →[More:]

I wanted to do a full, "You are good enough, smart enough, and gosh darnit, people like you!" music post, but I can't think of any songs that talk about being smart without being derisive. Can you? Or is it all about arrogance?

And "people like you" is probably too broad of a statement, but again, the only thing that springs to mind is sarcastic, like Billy Joel's "Big Shot." Oh, you're soooo well-liked. ::eyeroll::

It's kinda outside the mainstream, but Richard Thompson's "Hots for the Smarts" is great...

As for arrogance, the begrudging respect of "Still the Same" makes it my second favorite Bob Seger song, and maybe one of the most subtly ironic lyrics of a top-ten hit in the '70s... kind of like Billy Joel's "Big Shot" SHOULD have been.

"People like you"? How about "Everybody Wants You"...

But if you want to just give up on subtlety and go for pure saccharine mawkish affirmation, there's "Wind Beneath My Wings" or even [shudder] "You Light Up My Life".

In my alternate universe, this is daily affirmation. In everybody else's universe, it's one of my four year-old nephew's favorite songs.
