Good news, bad news. [More:]The bad news: while cleaning the stove today, I managed to grab a burner with both hands, not realizing it was turned on.

The good news: after a half-hour with both hands in a bowl of ice, my hands are pretty much fine. (I mean, there's a ribbon of puckered skin across both sets of fingers, but --- hey, I'm typin', ain't I?)

How's your day going? Good news? Bad news? Mishaps? Happy-haps?
Wow, that sounds extremely painful. As someone who has identical burn marks on her arms from two separate incidents with the oven I entirely sympathize.

Bad news: I just realized I blew threw my scheduled 15 minute phone meeting with my graduate program director today.

Good news: He's not a terrible person and will probably understand.

I still feel like crap through and why won't my boyfriend pick up so I can let out all my anxiety about it to him?

And that should be through not threw.

peacheater, does that mean you forgot it or that you were so enthusiastic that you ate up all the time? Either way, I've never met an advisor or program director who wouldn't understand. But feel free to vent your anxiety here!

And I'm fine --- amazingly so. I don't really understand why I'm not in pain, but apparently I got lucky this time. (About time, too; my hands are a map of burns and scars, a whole kitchen history written out on my skin.)

Bad news: I have eaten far too much food today. I am the queen of self-sabotage.

Good news: It was all healthy food, just far too much of it.

Elsa: Glad to hear it wasn't bad, at least this time.

Re the meeting: I just completely forgot. Forgot to send my annual report too. I got two reminders from Google Calendar about it, but apparently Gmail's priority inbox decided that google reminders are not important and pushed them into the non-important part of my mail, upon which I promptly archived them along with all the other random mail I get every day.

Luckily I just heard back from him and he was reassuringly nice -- just: Sure, tomorrow at 2 pm will work. Talk to you then. Phew! And my boyfriend called as well and calmed me down. (Grad school is hard on my nerves.)

Bad news: Too many incidents over the last week have almost convinced me that I need to start looking for a new home for my cat before I lose this one.

Good news: The summer heat in Fresno appears to have finally broken.

Some grad students might like to chime in on this, but it's my impression that it does that to everyone.

Bad News: I bounced our first check to our new landlord

Good News: it was only because we had just transferred a bunch of cash in and he cashed it right away and it wasn't credited yet. He understood, but

Bad News: It was horribly embarrassing and not the foot you want to get off on. But,

Good News: We have a new landlord, and a great new place!

Elsa, I'm so sorry. Glad it was no worse. The thing about burns...man, they really hurt when they're new. I hope The Fella treats you extra kind tonight. Ice cream.

Oh God yeah. What's weird is that about half the time, I think it's a wonderful and fun privilege to be studying, and the other half, it's an insane stressful burden and hassle that makes my neck tie into doubled-over knots like old hand-wrung laundry.

Good news: I finally got a new prescription for eyeglasses

Bad news: Now I have to find frames I like

Neutral: Prescription is now for progressives, but that is not a surprise

Extra: I like the word "spectacles"

What's with everyone being so vague today? Losing the cat, or the home?

Miko, if anyone brought me ice cream, I would put my hands directly into the bowl. Aaaaaaah.

When do you get to move into the new apartment? NEW APARTMENT YAY!

deborah, the last time you mentioned new glasses, I was all "OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, I forgot to call the eye doctor! I'll do it tomorrow." Guess what I completely forgot? OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

Bad news: I'm blowing off everybody, because I just don't have the energy to be sociable. I should be more of an adult here.

Good news: A freelance customer called to bitch me out on something, and I did NOT let it get to me the way it might have a few years ago. I'm actually learning that no, the world does not consist entirely of peaceful, lovey-dovey types, and that it's ok to stand up for myself.

Whoa, yeah, I missed that. Ardiril, if you want to expand on that, you can always vent here --- and here's hoping it works out well.

Jeez, isn't that the BEST? Also: kinda awesomely scary!

Home. Two kitchen fires and a misread pedestrian signal in the last week are the trees in a larger forest. This is why they take drivers licenses away from cardiac patients.

Oh, yikes. Do you have a social worker or other on-site someone you can talk to about this kind of thing? Is there a support group or other network your doctors' office can put you in touch with?
posted by Elsa 05 October | 18:13
Obviously, just talking is something you can do here; by "someone you can talk to," I really meant someone versed in the challenges and mechanisms who can help in a productive, directed way.
posted by Elsa 05 October | 18:15
I see someone in Social Services on Monday as the system is slow to respond. My doctors are aware and I will see them all by month's end. When I feel I am getting out of sorts, it's because too much fluid is pooling in my legs and not reaching my kidneys, so elevating my legs for an hour generally solves that. I start getting absent-minded however before I realize it is happening, or my trips away from the apartment get too long and I am usually returning home in a fog. That diuretics contribute their own similar side effects to what they're supposed to be solving doesn't help.

The incidents today that concerned me are the two times I caught myself just before I pissed my pants. If that happens, I'm calling 911.
posted by Ardiril 05 October | 18:39
Eek, Ardiril. I hope you're able to get things straightened out with someone knowledgeable in such things.

Bad news: I keep getting lots of omens and dreams and whatnot. And they are all trending towards EPIC SHIT IS ABOUT TO GO DOWN and YOU ARE NOT READY TO HANDLE SAID EPIC SHIT. I just did a quick card reading and it wasn't really helpful except for being all 'yeah, make your support network now and then be ready to head off the cliff'.

...

Good news: The week is almost over.

Amen to that.

Adiril take care. Hugs.

Morning started as one of those days ment to go down fighting - lots of little annoyances piling up - started by having to wash just cleaned sheet due to kitty barf etc.
Good happenstance was finding pyracantha (sp) thorny shrub at store finally. Now I have something to plant under the back windows to deter the next break-in!

Bad news: I haven't sleep well the past couple days. So I'm rather tired and headachy. And I foresee me going to bed tonight and tossing and turning again.

Good news: I transitioned a boatload of stuff I've been working on the past two years to the new lead so I no longer have to worry about it other than questions.

Super duper news: 2 more work days until my 3 day weekend.

I hope you find a good home for your kitty, Ardiril.

OUCH Burns are the worst, I burned my hands so much when learning how to cook.

Good News: I talked to one of my favorite authors today

Bad News: Well not bad, but while at said party everyone got the news simultaneously that Steve Jobs had died AND the People were marching on Wall Street. I had an out-of-body-oh shit-I-should-remember-this moment.
posted by The Whelk 05 October | 21:57

I just threw a pat of margarine into the trash, and tried to melt the rest of the stick, still in its wrapper, in the skillet. Calling 911 now. Anybody want a cat? I doubt my life will be the same when I get out.
posted by Ardiril 05 October | 22:51
My mother once cooked an entire ham with the plastic still on, you're got a while to go.
posted by The Whelk 05 October | 22:52
Oh no Ardiril! I hope this can be reversed.
The first time my bf came home with me to see my dad, he baked a whole package (plastic included) of Trader Joe's arancini. My bf had to be polite and pretend that was normal and eat it. It was pretty funny. Anyway, sometimes people are healthy but just absent-minded. I hope that is what is happening to you.

Good news: I got some good feedback from my boss about the new project I am on, and I seem to be doing an ok job on it which is a relief.

Bad news: Senator is really irritable and I am afraid something serious is going on. Making an appt now. When we moved in Aug, I made him an appt just to make sure he was ok and the vet said he might be a little dehydrated but nothing major. But he is digging and chewing my sheets and generally acting like he is pissed at the world and I don't know how to help him.

Elsa, I'm glad you're okay but, OOOWWWWWWWWWchchchchchch! Bad burns are painful in a way that gets into your bones. I'm glad you're mostly okay.

Miko, Congratulations on finding a new place!

Ardiril, 911? are you in the hospital, or out? As long as you aren't lying on the floor in pool of suspicious moisture, I suppose you're okay. Please taking care of self.

Everyone - I hope thare are no disasters, no sick pets, and happy MeChazens.

I have been sleeping only 2 - 4 hours/night. Got @ 5 hours last night and it felt so good. Work is so busy that I neglected to get oil. The heat is not on yet, but the water heater runs off the furnace, and, ooops. I heated water on the stove, and washed my hair in the sink.

Monday is Columbus Day, so 3 Day Weekend for the Win!
