22 July 2011

What's everyone up to this weekend? [More:]I am going on a mini-vacation with 5 friends to my mom's house.
I can't wait to see the new dock and swim and get away from NY!
Today I am picking up baby gates from freecycle so the cats can't get to the bunny when we move in.
Off to Kennywood Amusement Park tonight to meet up with my wife and her co-workers who are having their office summer picnic there. Probably go to see Captain America tomorrow for the air-conditioning as much as for the movie itself.

The kids move to Seattle on Sunday! This is good.

Kennywood? Is this the Rogers corollary vis a vis Islands in the Stream to Dollywood?

I have a short weekend (just off Sunday) but that's OK because I got a surprise invitation to an overnight hike on Thursday of Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains NP. LeConte is pretty wild - all supplies and waste are carried to and from the lodge in by llama train. So I'll have a weekend in the middle of the week!

I really dont have any major plans and the weather is a little iffy, so maybe I'll just do some yoga in the mornings, then go have lunch on the beach and see what happens from there

The weather here is going to continue to be horrifically hot and humid, so anything I do will be indoors. But the high drops down to 92F on Monday, whee :P

Cooking for the week and going to Home Depot this afternoon/evening; housework and sewing tomorrow; working on the house Sunday. It's pretty much the same program every weekend. I hope it's not too hot, as in that case I'll wind up turning into a slug, and lie by the fan, waiting for the heat wave to be over.

Tonight: Family night at SO's school then to the shore.
Tomorrow: Beach during the day then Atlantic City in the evening to eat, gamble, and see Daniel Tosh do stand-up.
Sunday: Home from the shore and dinner with parents and SO.

Waiting for the service shop to call an update me on my car today. The A/C stopped working months ago, and I'd been gutting it out, but I finally caved in. Hoping it just needs to be recharged.

Caved in on getting it fixed because I'm headed to Dallas Sunday for the Mission of Burma show, and, as excited as I am (and holy shit, I am!), I still don't want to spend 8 hours in the car (round trip) without A/C.

I'll wake the person up at daybreak every morning as always so she can give me my breakfast. I'll also insist on being fed supper at five or six p.m. I'll nap. I might play with my toys some, but it is kind of hot for that. In between naps, I'll keep an eye on what the person is doing. If she cooks, I'll try to steal some of the food. When she dusts, I'll follow her around inspecting the job she's doing, and when she takes out the vacuum cleaner I'll keep my distance. If she goes out to the backyard, I'll sit in the kitchen windowsill and loudly demand that she come back in, immediately. I'll make sure she pets me at regular intervals, and if she spends too long doing anything other than paying attention to me I'll tell her how I feel about that, but I'll also spend some quality alone time just hanging out in the kitchen. If she stays up too late, I'll insist that she come to bed. It's pretty much the same program every weekend.

Right now it's 101F with a heat index of 115. If this carries on I will just be lying by the air conditioner, whimpering.

For the first time in quite a while, I have no social or work plans for the weekend AND am feeling reasonably good. I have a couple of gaming-related projects on the go, so I'm probably going to put some significant time into both of those this weekend, and just playing video games in general, with zero guilt about anything else I "should" be doing.

Kennywood? Is this the Rogers corollary vis a vis Islands in the Stream to Dollywood?

Heh, no. Kennywood's a corny old-fashioned amusement park built a hundred years ago to entertain steelworker's families. Great old wooden coasters.

I just went for a short run, much shorter than I'd wanted because I forgot to go to the loo before I left. This evening is housework, TV and laundry.

Tomorrow I'm going on an art walk in Central London. It doesn't start until 3, so I plan on doing my run in the morning, then I'll go into town, maybe grab a burrito at my favourite Mexican cafe before the walk.

On Sunday I'm meeting a friend for another run (yes, I've got the bug!), I have to go to the supermarket and, if it's showing round here, I want to see Horrible Bosses.

Working the whole weekend, pretty much. Will miss the nice warm weather (99°F at the moment). Might do some knitting.

Back at the Fringe Festival this weekend. Love working with the performers but the organizers are so disorganized I may not work with them next year.

We are finally getting summer style predictions for Saturday (78) and Sunday (80), so feeling very ambitious. Saturday hoping to get lazy self to Bikram Yoga for 8 am class, then run a few errands -- pick up tuned mountain bike, pick up wine deliveries, buy some more stockings -- and then hoping both to try my dog with WalkyDog and bicycle AND to take a long bike ride on my own. And practice guitar at some point. Unsure if I want to go to Harry Potter in 3D on Saturday night or drop in on what looks like a very small Seattle meet up or just hang at home. Sunday hoping to get to farmer's market, see my guitar teacher for a lesson, and take the pup for a run. Maybe later in the day if it really does hit 80.

I always over plan. But at least I never am at a loss for what to do!

I have a week off next week (yay!) but my partner doesn't (boo), so I'm going to spend the weekend figuring out what to do with my week. Got some stuff around the house that needs doing, as always, but also want to do some fun things like go out and shoot photos (let's see if I remember how), go to the art museum, stuff like that. May also try to take the partner bowling this weekend, since that's inside in the A/C.

I will be looking and looking at the very large and heavy window air conditioning unit in my basement, wondering if I'm strong enough to haul it upstairs and install it in my bedroom so I can sleep without melting, and wondering if the risk of personal injury will be worth it since it probably won't be all that hot for all that much longer, and then I'd have to risk more personal injury uninstalling it and putting it back in the basement. Sometimes I dislike living alone . . . .

Not much going on, it's too damn hot to do anything outdoors.

Tonight we will probably watch a few more episodes of Deadwood (we are nearing the end of season 3 *sob!*).

Tomorrow I will hit up a few Al-Anon meetings in the morning, then attach myself to a very close friend for the rest of the day. She's been gone for two weeks, and since I only have two weeks left here in Chapel Hill, I want to spend as much time with her as possible.

Packing, storing, culling. More packing, storing, culling. I'm so glad we have renters for our house here, but I really need to finalize where we are going to live when we get back to Brazil.

I am starting rehearsals tonight for my choir. This means that until August 8 I will have, oh, five weeknights to myself. We rehearse three hours on weeknights and about six hours per day on weekends, so... phew. I love the high level of the choir because we GET STUFF DONE, but I am nervous!

But tomorrow night after rehearsal we're going to Milwaukee to see Bon Iver with a good friend :) She loves to drive other people, is always enthusiastic, and takes us to George Webb before and after, so it's always a good time. Ain't no party like a [friend's name] party!

I don't think we'll have a free weekend until October. Ouch.

I'm considering buying a camel. I was going to go up to Connecticut to see my mom tomorrow, but I may postpone to Tuesday, since that's her birthday anyway. True Grit should also arrive from Netflix today or tomorrow, which I've been dying to see. Otherwise, just trying not to melt.

Tonight, I don't know yet. We better think of something, I do not want to sit around the house all night. We generally go out for dinner on Friday night, but who has the energy to eat in this weather? I have a taste for nothing. Except watermelon and popsicles!

Tomorrow, I take the dog for her annual checkup at noon. Depending on how it goes, we perhaps meet up with Eideteker at that meetup. Later in the day, we see Captain America.

Sunday, Church. No AC, so I imagine attendance will be very sparse. I might bring some popsicles to distribute amongst the small crowd. My pastor has graciously allowed me to bring over a wicker chair to spray paint in the depths of his basement that afternoon. I will probably also seek out a massage at the cheap place on Astoria Blvd.

Spent weekend before last in the hospital, spent last weekend recovering. This weekend I need to recover the house from neglect.

Tonight: working and drinking, because that's a combination that doesn't spell disaster.

Tomorrow: beach, hopefully! Or a movie if the weather doesn't cooperate. I've been ordered not to do any work tomorrow (I'm on a business trip right now) so I'm planning a gentle day for now.

Sunday: Meeting up with a bunny! And then driving down the coast to Punta Gorda, and preparing myself for a draining week.
posted by punchtothehead 22 July | 16:26
Still not feeling 100%, so I think I'll pass on the meetup. Condo issues still need to be resolved and the only way I want contact with the board member who attacked his nanny is through a lawyer.

Tomorrow: Haircut first thing, badly needed, followed by a Goodwill run to unload stuff I should have ditched before moving. Then probably the SF meetup.

Sunday: garden, house, and desk work; maybe something with neighborhood friends in the early evening.

Tonight: hopefully cleaning my house and doing some schoolwork.

Tomorrow: going for a walk, maybe more schoolwork, definitely a bubble bath and finishing up my divination project notes.

Sunday: work

Yeah, also jealous of Kennywood; I'm planning a day there in a couple of weeks.

Got to Kennywood, ate dinner, then a huge thunderstorm came up and they closed the park. Didn't get to ride a thing. We did get free tickets for another day.

Rain? What's that?

More pre-move de-cluttering this morning and tomorrow. Keeping grandbunny this evening, we'll probably fill the backyard pool. Mid-day I will go to my mom's to help sort her mail and see if anything needs to be paid. Regular bills are on auto -pay but sometimes a stray will come in and she's not sure what to do with it. I need to do some laundry, maybe I'll take it over& do it at her house. Two birds, one stone.

Recovering from the ditch I dug in my middle finger with a box cutter yesterday (ow).

Trying not to work the whole weekend like I've been doing for almost 8 months now. (I really miss MeCha)

Taking naps. Possibly getting some lap swimming in if we can motivate ourselves to dash from house to car to pool & back.

We got a brief shower late this afternoon. I wore flip flops out with the dogs after they ate. The puddles felt like bathwater.
