THE GREAT APARTMENT HUNT is over.[More:]The 5th floor walk-up is ours! We're all very pleased- me, Stynxno, and my boss, who had visited apartments with me that day and liked it the best of all. Lease signing Friday morning!
Congrats!

Which means walking up 5 flights of stairs? Again, just curious.

congrats!

Oh yes! Top floor of the building. After 5 years in a basement, it'll nice to be know there's no one above us, playing the bass and building IKEA furniture at 1 a.m. BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG.

Just got an e-mail from the broker- I have to bring 5 separate certified checks/money orders to the lease signing. Security, 1st month, pro-rated for part of June, pet deposit, broker's fee. Cracks me up! Guess I'll be going to the bank tomorrow!

YAY! Congratulations! It's lovely to live on the top floor, and knowing there's no one stomping above you makes it well worth the climb.

That's gonna be nice. Plus, it'll keep you in shape!

Top floor is worth dealing with roof leaks.

Congrats, it sounded like a huge process to find it. Ardiril, I'd rather deal with leaks from the roof than leaks from apartments above me.

Well, it's better than the 1st floor with no security. But five flights of stairs. Fuck. Laundry, groceries, furniture, all up and down five flights. It's good you guys are young. That would kill an old lady like me (two flights is enough for me). And they're making you pay part of June? That sucks. Still, you must be relieved to have something. It really didn't take you long at all. If you don't want to say, I understand, but I'm just curious how much...

That's a song lyric waiting for a melody.

We asked to move in mid-month; we wanted to get in ASAP and not have to rush moving. We get the keys June 18th; not sure yet when we'll move in all our stuff. I gotta call the movers. I'll e-mail you the rent :P

Amen. Been there, done that (several times), not fun.

And I know someone who won't be walking those five flights of stairs. Oh yes, Miss Twinkie, I'm talking about you. I can just see her walking halfway up the first flight and then stopping, demanding to be carried the rest of the way, and winning.

Actually they only have to walk up four flights of stairs. In the U.S. the ground floor is called the 1st floor.
posted by matildaben 08 June | 18:04
That won't matter to Twinkie, she won't be walking it anyway.

Will you have roof access? Is the view worth it?

If both answers are yes, I have other questions about barbecueing and maybe a foosball table.

Yay! Neighbors! kinda

Alas, we don't. They have an internal motion alarm attached to the stairway leading up to the roof that is very easy to set off.

And, yes, Twinkie will not be walking :p

What is the apartment like?

Yes, so I discovered when I visited with my boss! TOTALLY EMBARRASSING. That said, there is a fire escape outside the bedroom window that leads up to the roof......

Yay! Plus, you will be in awesome shape.

You will be in awesomer shape!

BUNS OF STEEL! Anthony Weiner will have nothing on me.

iconomy, it's a one-bedroom on the 5th (top) floor. When you go in the door, there's a big closet to the left and the separate kitchen to right. The kitchen is rectangular, fridge/counters/sink to the left and stove to the right, with enough free space to probably add a skinny cart or table on the right side. Past that is the living room- two windows, wood floors. Keep walking, another closet on your left, bathroom on the right- the bathroom is a little tight, but I think I prefer that because I like to be able to reach all the body products in the room from the shower. Beyond that, the bedroom! Two windows, one with the fire escape. No closet in the bedroom, which I think is nice because that means you can put furniture on all walls. I'll post pictures as soon as we have some!
