Life... not for the faint of heart [More:] It's been a rough coupla days and probably a rough coupla more.

I am on a business trip this week. This is a really tough week for my wife at work, and it's not good that she has to deal with it alone. :(

My flight was supposed to leave at 1:20 pm yesterday and land at 4:30. The way it actually worked out is that the day before, there was bad weather and lots of planes got diverted to other cities. Not enough planes, not enough crew == massive delays. My (full) flight was canceled but I was fortunate (!) enough to get one at 9:30 that would arrive at 1 am. As it actually turned out, we weren't ready to leave until midnight, at which time the plane's first officer turned into a pumpkin (workday expired; could not fly) so we had to wait about 45 minutes for a new first officer and finally took off at 1 am, arriving at 4:45 am. An hour and a half of sleep and a full day of meetings.

My Buffalo Sabres lost Game 7 and were eliminated from the NHL playoffs. :(

My wife sent me several texts during the day, and I finally got to talk to her. Our 14-year-old dog, Sugar, has stopped eating and is fading fast and may pass away before I get home Thursday. :( That, on top of all the crap she is dealing with at work right now.

I'm not sure if there is more crap going on in my life lately, or if it is just affecting more than usual. Calgon, take me away.

Sugar, after the biting incident (with partner in crime Winston), which I think took quite a bit out of her :(

I hope she can hold on for a couple days until I can get home.

Lacey, my 14-yo dog is headed that way. It's hard to see her slowing down so much, and incontinent to boot. She's always slept in our room but we have to make her sleep in the laundry room now. She also has these episodes where she has stoke-like symptoms but in an hour she's OK.

I hope your week gets better Doohickie. . .

Sorry for your troubles, Doohickie. Sugar looks like she's been a great friend to your family.

Big love to all our interspecies family members. It's the inevitable conclusion of the joy-pact we make, but it sucks just as hard every time.

I'm sorry Doohickie. Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield. You're having a a bug time at the moment.

Sending good vibes to Sugar.

I would quote mykescipark for truth too, what a great comment. I was just thinking with relief again about how glad I am that my big spirited little Aussie is still so young and vital. I continue to grieve for the dogs I have loved and lost over the years.

Also, sympathetic Internet hug here to you, Doohickie. Your title says it all.

We got Sugar to the vet. She has numerous tumors that are pretty much eating her up and causing pain. The vet gave her pain meds and anti-nausea meds, and special expensive doggie food. He said she might have days, or she might rally and live another few months, even a year.

Sometimes things do work in one's favor. After all the problems with getting to DC for my trip, things were looking bad for my trip back to Texas- lots of thunderstorms coming to DC tomorrow. However my meeting wrapped up today and I can go home. Couldn't get a flight out tonight, but I have a 6 am flight out tomorrow. According to the forecast, that should be before the worst of the weather hits. (Cross your fingers.)

Doohickie, I'm so sorry. I'm sending good thoughts and hoping you have an uneventful and swift trip home.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm home, and due to all the time stuck at the airport and stuff, I've got my hours in for the week (= long weekend). Yay me!
