Ever have a fantasy/wishful thought come true? [More:]Sounds silly, but I am a big Meat Loaf fan (the singer, not the entree, though that is good as well). I aquired my first album as an early teen in the late '70's, and ended up going through two albums, three cassettes, and now a cd. One of my favorites has always been "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". In my fantasy, I've done an "acted out duet" with someone, but in reality never found the right person.

Fast forward to the wedding of my friend's son. Dancing on the floor with a bunch of twentysomethings (I am about to hit mid 40's), when "Paradise" came on. And lo and behold, a young man, without any prompting from me, started to duet with me! It was phenomonal - I had such a blast, and it meant so much to me. At the end, he hugged me and literally picked me up off the floor. It was such a wonderful event, an acutal completion of my little daydream, I don't even know how to put it into words.

So tell me, my MeCha friends...have you ever had a daydream come true?
I had a crush on this woman in town. . .she was with someone and I was also, and although I was very attracted, nothing came of it.

Alas, 5 or 6 years later, we're both single and I asked her out and it turned into a relationship.

Alas, also, she dumped me several months in. Which is good, in the long run, but it's never fun to be the dumpee. . .

I do have a general feeling I have most of the time that I am very lucky to have gotten the life I dreamed about when younger. (Yes, feel very fortunate about that.)

But specifically . . . I used to daydream when much, much younger about meeting the eyes of someone attractive across a room and having that person walk across the room to make romantic overtures. And to my delight, that actually did happen to me at a mixer in college my sophomore year. The two of us then just did some flirting and dancing at the mixer, but I never really lost the little glow from having that little fantasy come true.

I remember when I was little I used to wish I had a magic book in which I could look up everything I ever wanted to know, no matter how complex or how trivial, and find every novel there was.

I got my wish. The Internet is my magic book.

Meatloaf fan here, too... Oh, man, your story takes me right back to junior high -- junior high dances, more specifically. My best friend Beth and I used to sing the Dashboard duet at the top of our lungs out on the gymnasium dance floor. Luckily the ten foot speakers drowned us out. We had a blast, though.

Jon got a movie recently with Meatloaf that I'm looking forward to seeing, but I forget the name (he's sleeping at the moment, but I'll ask him).

When I was first dating SuperHot guy a few years ago, he got up to go to the bathroom and I was thinking about how perfect he was and how great looking he was. Then I thought, the only thing that could make him any hotter is if he wore glasses. Then he came back from the bathroom with glasses on! Seems silly but it was crazy to me.

Hrm. Kind of.

when I was getting ready to move to the USA, I was working in my lab in NZ with an American woman who was married to a NZer. she was like "watch out, my husband showed up for his first day of work as a postdoc and I was in the lab, and we ended up getting married". We spent quite a bit of time joking about how I was going to meet my future husband on my first day in the USA (I had absolutely no plans of getting married, ever, and had in fact just come out of a pretty dysfunctional 4 year relationship and disastrous rebound affair so...).

Anyway, I arrive in the US at 10pm on a Thursday night and start work the next morning. Friday evening is departmental happy hour and I'm introduced to a punk rock-loving med student called Steve... (who totally blew me off to go to band practice... asshole :) )

Something like that is unfolding in my life right now, actually. Except it's more like pieces falling into place that I've been working on for a year or more. Things are going so well on this thing that it's almost scary.

But I can't think of anything like that falling in my lap, unless you count getting my house for nearly nothing. But I wasn't wishing for it, it just happened.
