So sick of lies [More:] Sen. Jon Kyl brought this to the surface by falsely claiming 90% of Planned Parenthood's budget goes to abortions, but really.....

I am so sick of the BIG LIE. Purposely telling a falsehood in a political context should be punishable by death. The US is going down the shitter because of people like this.

I was talking to a coworker today who, despite past pleasant conversations, started in on an end-times rant about about China invading Israel. Really? WTF? The US used to be ruled by sane leaders, elected by sane people.

Now I think that the US is, as a nation, certifiably batshitinsane. For those outside of our boarders, I would like to personally apologize for the inconvenience.

I need to get into a new line of work.
borders, not boarders. I'm three martinis in; you should be grateful my rant was as coherent as it was.

Is there a line of work where one can get any from unpleasant people? I think we'd all like to quit what we're doing now and go do that, instead.

That would be working from home, TPS! you know it's true, having been there and done that.

Alas, no, even that job involved dealing with unpleasant people, just via e-mail and phone instead of in-person.

ah, I just deal with documents and talk to a real person about once every two months.

Anyway, Doohickie. I feel you. I had a meltdown a coupel of months ago about the state of politics in the US, and was telling my husband that we were going back to New Zealand.

Of course, NZ isn't great for lots of things either. And if we're talking abortion there? It's a lot more restrictive than here. I remember some of my friends having to go to Australia to get one.

One reason I love my work is that almost everyone is sane and pretty smart.

But that doesn't help us on a national level. Things are tragic here right now. All I can say is that I know a lot of people agree, and hopefully we're all pained enough to start doing the work of pushing the pendulum the other way.

This is the biggest lie of all. It is part of what I call the "Ward & June's Beaver" lie.

Remember this:

all that you have in common with coworkers is the need to earn a living.

This is why I believe in alternate realities. I think we are each living in our own. Shared reality is strongly related to proximity. An actual shared reality among all living humans is impossible because it simply does not communicate itself.

Oh, didn't he or his staff try to explain this away afterwards by using the wonderful phrase "not intended to be a factual statement"?

I guess what they meant by that is it was intended to be hyperbole. And if he'd said something like "Planned Parenthood spends about a trillion dollars on abortion" then that would be obvious hyperbole, so, ok, no fair complaining about the actual number given.

But 90%? That's not obvious hyperbole, it looks more like a factoid (one of those things that has the appearance of a fact, but isn't true), so this "wasn't trying to state an actual correct number" defense doesn't fly.

Unfortunately, the political situation here in Canada doesn't seem a whole lot better right now. So my plan to invade the USA with a fleet of stealth canoes and free you all from tyranny is going to have to wait a bit.

I used to think working for yourself would be the answer. Turns out, I have a real moron for a boss.
