shoe anatomy does anyone know how I can figure out if the sole on this shoe is stitched on or glued on? I'm gonna try to cut out the glued-on insole to check. pic. there's plenty of stitching on the upper.

I was thinking of just taking a knife to it but then sanitary issues of which knife to use (I only have kitchen-dwelling knives) and holding the soft shoe in my hand plus its general stubbornness in coming apart (and the fact that it was relatively pricey even at 60% off when I got it 3 years ago) made me reconsider

IANACobbler - It looks glued to me. Why do you want to know?

Also - knives can be cleaned.

It's glued. You could see the stitches if sole was hand stitched. For example.

thx bearwife. Yeah I kinda see what you mean but it's often sort of subtle or covered up I figured

deborah I just want to know if it's well made or not. It's a Gucci so.. everything I'm learning these days about these midrange luxury brands is turning me off more and more. Good thing I'm perpetually broke or I'd have been had in the meanwhile! Just the fact that the same few corporations own a bunch of these marks pretty much explains that you can't really take 'em that seriously

Another thing I'm discovering these days about glue is kinda interesting, it's kinda 'the' marker for lesser workmanship in a lot of different things (like, to pick another thing I've become interested in recently, the insides of clocks.) High end things get riveted, welded, stitched, nailed etc. Less carefully made things get glued.

Believe me, it is basic to a hand stitched shoe that others can SEE it is hand stitched. Else no one would know the owner is worthy of shoe envy.

I am totally with you about naming and branding being no guarantee of quality, btw.
